Great hotel, great location with public transit to greater London area
I needed a hotel in the East end of London, but near transport links so I could get into central London.
After a few minutes of searching online I found this hotel. Using the Travelsupermarket site I found a rate of £43.61 per night, for two nights, so I decided to book it. It was to be the first time that Ive stayed at a Holiday Inn.
Arrived at Leyton tube, and got the 158 bus to the hotel. Took about 20 mins, when it arrived I got off at Crooked Billet roundabout and got lost! Luckily I found my way thanks to Google map on my mobile, the hotel is literally opposite the Walthamstow dogs stadium. Sainburys is right next door, which is very handy.
Check in was quick, I asked for a room on the top level, and the request was met with room 330. There are four floors, including the ground floor where there are a few rooms. The hotel is pretty simple, it was easy to navigate the room, and first impressions were good.
Room was spotless, the view was looking onto Sainsburys car park, but you could see out for quite a distance.
The beds are comfortable, TV had the 5 normal channels, plus Sky one, Sky news, and E4 as well as some radio stations.
The remote control did not work at all, I reported the fault using a note supplied in the room, and left it on the bed. The cleaner must have seen the note and taken away the remote, yet they did not supply another remote. Was not a big problem though, as could use the buttons on the TV.
The air con is very effective, however was sometimes a bit loud if on full setting, of course the solution to that is to turn down the setting.
At night the hotel is very quiet, no noise heard from outside, and did not hear any other guests. It made for very restful sleeping, however the bar does stay open until 2am in case a drink is required!
The bathroom was again very clean, shower was powerful, they had soap and shampoo/shower gel in little bottles fixed to the wall.
I asked for some toothpaste and a handy little tube with a brush was given, for free. Also included is a daily copy of the Independant newspaper which can be collected from Reception.
Did not try the breakfast at the hotel as got up too late on both mornings! However I had breakfast across the road at Sainburys, £4.50 for a breakfast is not bad at all.
The hotel itself is very good, however the location is a bit out the way, you do have to get a bus to get to the tube station, which considering the waiting for a bus and the bus journey time, it is a major downside. Standing at the bus stop in the freezing cold and rain was a bit annoying, but then the money saved by staying at this hotel compared to one more central London balances itself out.
The bus ride takes about 15 mins to Walthamstow Central tube, so it just depends if that factor is important to yourself. If you are to get a bus from Walthamstow Central, wait at bus stand D.
Would stay with Holiday Inn again, I think in terms of value for money this one at least is a lot better than a Travelodge, but next time I think I will stay at a Holiday Inn closer to a tube station.
I've stayed at this hotel for three time now as i lived in this area before and i like to come back to it as often as i can. And in this three times i had a different experience: the first time was ok, second time a disaster and the third time was a blast!
Knowing that our previous stay was a nightmare and that we had a elderly family member with us that wasnt able to enjoy her stay as well as she should the hotel's Acting Deputy General Manager made everything is her power to make sure our stay this time would be perfect. And it was: late check in took three minutes. And we were welcomed with a warm smile. Everything was already prepared for us when we got there so all we had to do was sign. The room (230) was one of the best we have stayed so far and although it was in front of the elevator we could barely hear any noise. The room as sparkling clean. Maybe because last time one of ou main complaint was concerning the cleaning this time it was spotless and hopefully it will be the same next time we visit them.
Breakfast is included on the room's rate wich is always a nice touch and they have a small detail that for us means the world: they have a microwave for guest to use. As well as cuttlery, plates, sauces and all you need if you wanna have an early night in. Which was really useful for us this time.
The room as coffee and tea facilities, a nice tv with national channels and a really good coconut body wash! :)
The hotel isnt central. But you have a few buses right in front that in 10 minutes leave you on Walthamstow station and from there you can reach everywhere in London. Also from there you have direct bus to Straford in case you wanna catch the national express to Stansted Airport. And Walthamstow is a great area, the real London in my opinion. Where you have a local shopping centre and a Saturday morning market.
Also behind the hotel you have a sainsburys which might always come handy.
So in case you were wondering if you should or not stay in this hotel, dont hesitate. Its a modest hotel but you have there eveything that you need to have a pleasant stay, including a great Acting Deputy General Manager that in our case changed the opinion we had about this hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel numerous times and have always recevied great service. Because I travel around the world for business, I know a thing or two about customer service in hotels, and at this hotel you get the best. I normally stay at Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express because of the points and because they are located everywhere. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone, business or leisure.
Stayed for one night in June 2010, it was by far the cheapest hotel in the London E4 area.
The room was clean and comfortable. The reception friendly and helpful. It was a very hot night and the air con worked like a dream.
Breakfast was included in the price and was good value, it was billed as 'continental' but included sausages and scrambled eggs, you could also get fresh fruit, youghurts, cereals, toast, croissants, jams etc.and a variety of hot drinks and fruit juces.
There is a small bar and internet facilities. The car park was free.
The hotel does not mind you having take away food delivered to the hotel, ideal for those on a budget.
Thre is a regular bus service that runs from the main road and the stop is close to the hotel, but it is not ideally located for central London.
