We stayed at the Queensway Hotel for only 1 night as a stopover before heading over to Wales. We had arrived in Heathrow airport and taken the Heathrow Express to Paddington. And as our train to Wales was also leaving from Paddington station the next day, a hotel close by was our ideal choice, and Queensway Hotel was quite perfect in that sense. The hotel is very close to Paddington station(5 mins if walking with lots of luggage).
The staff were quite friendly and were ready to answer most of our questions but were not good with directions when we called!(even though the hotel was VERY CLOSE by).
The rooms are very small(not enough room to open up lots of luggage) but it was clean and adequate for a good nights rest. The rooms are small, corridors are narrow and of course there is no lounge to relax or rest within the hotel. The toilets were suprisingly very clean and well maintained.
If you're traveling on a busy schedule and you won't be spending much time in your hotel room and are just looking for a clean place to have a good nights rest then Queensway Hotel would be good value for money. Remember hotels in London are VERY expensive, so don't expect too much when booking a budget hotel.
Shops and restaurants are just around the corner and open till quite late at night so it was good for us to grab a quick bite even though we had arrived in London pretty late in the night.
My conclusion: If you're on a trip to sightsee and party or enjoy the city life, then hotels around the Paddington station area may not be too ideal. However if you're on a business trip and stopping over for a night or two, or you're on your way to another destination in the UK then being close to Paddington station is extremely convenient!
(There are alot of hotels around Padding station. The whole area where Queensway Hotel was situated is a hotel district!)
I would recommend NOT getting a room in the basement.
