“Cheap hotel, but too small and unsafe”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Well, the price for this hotel is relatively small but the rooms condition is very bad. The rooms are tiny and unsafe as for fire (you can get stuck in your room if any emergency), the lift (old fashioned steel grating) and you can hit the things in your room and be injured. If you are a big person you should not stay there for sure. The top floor is the worst one.

Room Tip: Try to use the other hotels nearby even if you pay 10-20 GBP more. Do not stay at the top floor.

“Convenient, but awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This hotel was ideally located for a meeting that I was attending the next day and at the price appeared to be worth the risk. I would not recommend that anyone else takes the same risk. I stayed here at the end of last year and my room was filthy. I tried to have a shower and the water was freezing cold, even after being left to run for a long time. I will never stay here again and would not recommend that anyone else, even my worst enemy, does!!!

Room Tip: Don't book this hotel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Terrible hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I was here for two nights, for a business meeting. The hotel was booked by the company, since it was nearby the meeting place. Good position, terrible hotel. The reservation was not found on my arrival, but of course they had free rooms. Single room very small and dirty. Chair falling into pieces. Better not to look at the bedspread. Very old and tiny bathroom, so tiny that the basin was in the room. Not possible to leave the luggage during the day after checking out because they dont have where to put it. Not possible to get from the desk any information on London. Not possible to open the window.

Room Tip: Don't use this hotel

“Unacceptable - did not stay for the second night!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

True, the hotel is very well located. But honestly, the owners of this hotel should be ashamed of themselves. I paid 120 pounds (had to pay 5 pounds extra for the WiFi connection which was really poor) for a double room. Not a bad price for central london. But I absolutely do not expect to find a shower curtain that is covered, yes covered, in black mould, a shower rail that was completely rusted, ceiling falling apart, broken curtains, dust and grime everywhere, a TV that did not work, and carpets that looked like that had last been cleaned years ago. If I hadn't had such a late flight into london, I would have found another alternative. What is of most concern however, is that the following morning when I went to the reception and told them that I would not be returning that night (I had paid upfront for two nights), the only thing the person (I think is was the manager) behind the reception desk asked me was for my credit card so that he could give me a refund. He did not even ask me why I would not be returning. Save yourself the disappointment and do not book into this hotel - EVER!

“about what you would expect for the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

let's face it, hotel prices in central london are ridiculously high. So for 90 pounds a night for a single room you're not going to get anything fancy.

On the plus side, it's in a great location, convenient for several tube lines and minutes walk from oxford circus. The staff are friendly and attentive and it comes with free breakfast and cheap wifi (5 pounds a day) and has en suite bath/shower.

On the down side, the room i got was tiny and very poorly insulated against sound from the 2 neighboring rooms , in addition the fire door to the 3 rooms on the top level had no damper resulting in a loud bang avery time someone came or went. I didn't mind that there were 2 additional flights of stairs beyond the last lift stop, but it felt like things were crammed in a little too tight.

The room was a little jaded - paint peeling, worn carpets, slight musty smell but i have (unfortunately) stayed in much worse places.

Next time i need to stay in london i'll check out the astor court next door to the hallam hotel - looked a little more spacious and up to date, and only 10 pounds a night more. Overall, I would only stay here again if i really had no other options.

Room Tip: 5th floor rooms are tiny and noisy, basement rooms have a pervasive smell of cooking.
