I was worried after reading some bad reviews on trip advisor, but decided to book anyway. The hotel had a good looking reception, hallways and restaurant which was a relief. The room was also attractive (upgraded to premium room with sea view). However, problems soon emerged. There were stains on the bed covers and the bathroom was dated and badly lit. The double glazing had gaps which meant that every single noise was coming straight in to our room - the traffic, music from an American diner, and drunks shouting at every hour throughout the night - (leading to the worst nights sleep I have had in recent memory). Our room door literally had to be slammed to get it to shut (I feel sorry for the other guests nearby). The TV was old and randomly went to a 'fuzzy blizzard' with no image or sound. The restaurant menu was limited and at one point the waiter forgot to serve us dessert (leaving us sitting there for 40 mins for no reason). Breakfast was good, but the scrambled eggs looked revolting, sat in a plate of cold water. The cleaners also walked into our room twice without even knocking. To conclude - the hotel was fair, but could be so much better. It was not the horror story I expected after reading reviews, and thank goodness I wasn't embarrassed by it (after taking my partner there). However, given the price paid (£200 per night inc breakfast and dinner) the value was shockingly poor. Do not bother having dinner here, and don't chose this hotel unless you get a very good price. Bring ear plugs.

The hotel looks pretty tired from the outside, but inside it has a cosy feeling and the front desk staff are very good. The room we had was an old fit-out, but it was clean and well maintained.

The bed was very good, and the only sleeping problem was a bit of noise from the nightclub opposite.

This room was great value (for Brighton) at 91 pounds. I would definitely stay there again, and prefer this hotel to the Thistle. Our room was on the side, but had a view of the beach & pier.

Having read some of the''terrible'' reviews on here I felt I had to have my say. I was part of a coach tour from the West Midlands and have to say this was very good value for money. We could not fault the rooms, or the food, that was excellent, as was the service. The only slight problem was the early morning noise from the Thistle Hotel next door having their bins emptied. Glass Bottles???? What a racket!. Sounded like there was no glass in the window!. I accept that as an individual guest it would be a bit hard on the pocket as its not cheap. I think it was a lovely place to stay, clean and comfortable though could do with a lick of paint to make it a bit smarter.

Sprawling hotel, very old and full of character right on the sea front. Reception staff were helpful and friendly. Room was very comfortable and clean and had everything you could want, had good decor and was well maintained. Bathroom looked a little worn but was very clean. Sleep quality was good, comfy bed and curtains kept out the light well. Breakfast was good with vast choice of English, cereals, meat/cheese, pastries, fruit - serve yourself with waiter service for hot drinks. Would stay here again - got a great deal of £69 per room including breakfast - on booking.com. Our two gripes were the amount charged for parking in the hotel's own car park £20 per day and £7 for wi-fi - in a four star hotel I think this is plain greedy.
