We selected the Avalon for a two day one night break in the Bournemouth area and were pleased with what we found.
Firstly a friendly and welcoming greeting when we arrived by Olga who showed us to our room and covered any questions that we had. We stayed in Arthur which was a nicely presented room with a decent sized bed and sofa. Also a nice sized double wardrobe for hanging items, a single sized shelved cupboard and two decent bedside cabinets. Tea making facilities and two bottles of water as well which were a nice touch, also a nice sized TV with freeview included.
Bathroom was very good with plenty of cupboard space, complimentary toiletries and a large heated towel rail. Very large sized shower cubicle and an excellent shower itself. Like the room the bathroom was finished to a high standard. The only I would have liked would have been larger bath towels or sheets for coming out of the shower but that was a minor thing.
Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cereals and cooked items. We met Paul who took the time to chat and take orders without wanting to rush you. You can see that he is genuinely interested in guests and that they are happy during their stay.
There are enough parking spaces for rooms at the Avalon and there is ample street parking, though that may be used during busier times as the hotel is only a hundred yards or so from the front. There is also internet access available downstairs though don't believe that there is Wi-fi available.
We didn't book an evening meal and were looking to eat locally within walking distance. That wasn't too successful as we did not find very much on the nearby main road ( about 200 yds ), plenty of takeaways as well as a Co-op and Tesco Express but not restaurants. So we did end up driving into Bournemouth which wasn't a problem and did pass some Indian, Chinese and Italian places on the way. That can be both a plus and minus for people depending on their evening meals wants, if you want a better choice of restaurants then either stay nearer to Bournemouth or be prepared to drive or get a taxi.
Overall I have to say that, for couples, the Avalon is a great place to stay and I would recommend it without hesitation. It is located in a nice area and the hotel is of an excellent standard and run with a focus on providing good service at a fair price. Would happily go back again !
