“Second Time & Still Good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

Second time here and still good. Alan & Chris looked after us well and didn't mind our early requests for dinner (5.00 - 5.30) to suit our young daughter. Remembered us from last time and were very welcoming.

Breakfasts were good, evening meals were superb, made sure my daughter was well cared for, she couldn't stop asking for the prawns!

If you stay here you picked a good place and location. This a family hotel in an old house & not a sterile modern faceless chain hotel.

Liked; food, atmosphere and good sized room.

No dislikes.

Room Tip: Rooms 2 & 3 are best for families

“would definetly re-visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

upon arrival, first impressions were as i expected. a lovely charming cottage. we were greeted with a warm smile and an offer of tea and coffee, of which we excepted. filtered coffee and leaf tea was a lovely touch. we waited in the lounge area for a short while( which was pleasing to the eye) before being shown to our room and being assisted with our bags by the owner. we stayed in a standard room which was comfortable and suitably priced and suited us for our short stay, however, if i could give any constructive critisism about the room( no1 ), it would be to look at changing the carpet as it is looking a little tired. also, the water pressure seems quite low, however i guess that may have something to do with the age of the building. overall though, i thought the room was good value for money and had two very comfortable nights here. the tea and coffee tray and bottled water was also a nice touch.

both the breakfast and the evening menus were lovely, and the evening menu was very reasonably priced. we ate here on both nights and had two lovely meals ( would definetly recommend). friendly and attentive service without it being intrusive.

overall, we thouroughly enjoyed our stay here and would DEFINETLY RE-VISIT!!!!!

“Lovely Anniversary Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

We spend two nights here Sat/Sun and had a large, clean, quiet room with lovely Victorian bath in the ensuite. Beaugtifull bed linen and cushons. There was tea, coffee chocs, biscuits and water provided in the room which was a nice touch. Breakfast was pleantifull as was the three course home cooked dinner we had on the Saturday and very reasonably priced. The house is old and has great charm and character we loved it and the fact it has a story of Stuart Granger living there is interesting - so peacefull we slept well and left feeling very refreshed. We would go back and reccommendi it I think it it was good value for money and if you want a base to explore Bournemouth and relax it is perfect - thank you again

Room Tip: Room 3 is the best in the house

“not very good”

Definitely not the best place we have stayed in for the money we had to pay. We were tempted by the good reviews on Trip advisor and good location but would not recommend.

Room seemed ok at the first glance but desperately needs some TLC -lampshades tilted, chips on the bedside light (switch), ceiling light has some burns with terrible light bulbs, hairs on the duvet which should have been freshly changed. Bathroom has the odd quirk which is nice but overall not in a great state -hot water tap constantly running resulting in very hot water coming through, cheap plastic toilet papter holder, doesn't feel particularly clean. We were given some disgusting bathrobes (had something smeared all over them), not very pleasant.

Also, when the hotel kitchen is in use all smells travel upstairs to the rooms which is not very pleasant.

The whole place can do with a total renovation.

Room Tip: Car park very small

“Nice Enough Guest House But Not a Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Small private family-run establishment. Typical "attentive" service that you get in this sort of place, some people love it, others find it a bit too intrusitve.

Good size room, huge flat screen telly. Downside to the room was the fact that the weather was hot and as a result the room got very stuffy - could have done with a ceiling fan or similar. Free wifi which is a good touch.

Bathroom a disappointment, tiny sink, erratic flushing toilet, radiator fixed on full blast (to stop condensation I suppose but on a hot day it wasn't very pleasant), shower a very short tube off the bath taps, difficult to control temperature and kept falling off the wall.

Can't comment on dinner as didn't take it, but menu looked good. Breakfast alright, nice fry-up but so far as portions were concerned you got what you were given and that was that - no chance of an extra sausage or anything. Also let down a bit by the fact that the chef / owner clearly likes his cigarettes and stank of smoke as he was serving us. Also has that slightly uncomfortable atmosphere you get when there are only half a dozen tables in the room and people are whispering to each other so as not to be overheard by the rest of the room.

"Bar" is a table in the corner of the dining room from which they produce cans of drink.

Small car park, room for around 6 cars. We always managed to get a space but not sure how they'd cope if the place was full.

Overall decent enough as a guest house, and if you like the guest house experience then you'll be very happy here. On the other hand if you're more of a big hotel person then this probably isn't the place for you.

Thank you for your balanced review. As always we will act upon constructive feedback and I will certainly review the facilities in the bathroom.
The Hotel is clearly marketed as a small family run establishment with excellant personal service. I am therefore at a loss to understand why any guest who does not want personal contact would choose us against being anonymous in a large hotel.
As you are aware the date of your stay was the hottest weekend of the year so far and as your daughter was unwell during your stay, you spent a considerable time in your bedroom. An air conditioning unit was provided for you.
Thank you for your kind comments regarding the quality of the Breakfast, although as we are so communicative I was disappointed that you didn't feel able to ask for another sausage!
Please accept my assurance that on this particuarly busy weekend all of our rooms were full and there was sufficient parking for all of our guests - a fact that you have highlighted in saying that you had no problem parking. I cannot think of too many 100 bedroom hotels in Bournemouth that have 100 parking spaces.
As we offer dinner service to residents and non residents, the bar is situated in the Restaurant. This is not a table, but a custom made solid oak bar servery. Although we do not offer draught beer, neither do we serve cans. All our beers are served in bottles.
