have stayed here numerous times, and have found it clean, but the rooms fairly basic.
I have eaten here, and the food was good.
most of the staff are good - night porter a little miserable.
the bar has a good atmosphere normally.

We were at a New Year's Eve party on Bournemouth pier and wanted a decent hotel within easy walking distance for the night - we certainly got that with the Royal Exeter - from the easy, private, plentiful parking, the bonus of having a smoking room that was brilliantly huge and well equipped with a double aspect view, a decent, nicely cooked breakfast and lovely courteous, friendly service from the staff.

This is an old building that has been sensitively modernised and decorated to suit most tastes - both contemporary yet in keeping with the age of the building. It is a stones throw away from the gardens and town centre for shopping, and also the beach and pier, and of course the BIC is just across the road.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for one night for a company Christmas party and it was an extremely pleasant experience all round, mainly due to the exceptional staff who work there. From Eva at Reception who made me very welcome and was extremely helpful in arranging an early check in, to the very helpful maintenance man who even tried to arrange a couple of croissants for us as we'd missed the main breakfast sitting! In the end a very pleasant gentleman from the 1812 restaurant produced the most delicious croissants I've ever eaten, plus toast, coffee, fruit juice etc etc which we ate in the lounge area.

Our staff Christmas meal was absolutely delicious and I was very impressed with all the waiting staff who managed to get each person's pre-booked meal exactly right - not an easy thing to do with 40 people all sitting down at once!

Our double room was extremely spacious with a huge Super King size bed. The only comment I would make is that even with the radiator turned off, the room was rather hot during the night but I'd rather have that than freezing cold!

The hotel is full of character with huge stained glass windows and lovely carved wooden bannisters and although we didn't have time to explore the area, I know the beach is nearby and the shops not far away either. Secure car parking is an added bonus.

All I can say is that everybody who works in the Royal Exeter Hotel deserves a big pat on the back for the most impressive customer service I've ever come across!

Lovely clean hotel with friendly staff. Booked a standard double as a solo traveller and was surprised at how big the room was.
Also very clean and of a high standard.
Breakfast very nice, also a bonus was the fact that there is on site parking via a barrier so your car is on the hotel premises which is safe, but also the hotel does not charge quests :-)
