“Christmas at The Chine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We are regular visitors over the Christmas period and have seen many changes over the years, mostly for the better. The upgraded rooms are comfortable and well presented, well worth the extra cost for sea view and large balcony. The restaurant always offers good quality and varied food. This year the Chefs excelled with some fantastic fayre. Taking into account the hours which some of the staff worked, especially in the restaurant, the service was second to none. The whole package was excellent value for money and we will certainly be returning next year. The bar prices I found were extremley high and discouraged me from my usual intake, which was probably a good thing.

Room Tip: We stayed in 321 which is top floor with large corned balcony, great for sun most of the day.

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Our family stayed at the hotel for two days on a New Year package in a family room which consists of a main bedroom with double bed and a much smaller second room containing a bunk bed.The room is clean and in good condition but the furniture feels a little dated and worn. However, the soft furnishings had clearly been recently refurbished and the bedding and curtains were striking and contemporary. We particularly liked the view from the room and balcony which was over the grounds and towards the sea.

Unlike many older English seaside hotels, a new bathroom had also been fitted and the modern white bathroom furniture gave it a crisp and clean appearance.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially considering the crazy hours they were working over the festive period. The food was good. Breakfast was buffet style with a lot of choice for meat eaters and vegetarians. It could be improved if the items were not kept so long under the heating lamp, which tended to dry some items out.

The hotel benefits from both an indoor and outdoor pool as well as gym. At the time of our visit the outdoor pool was closed but the indoor pool and hot tub were a real attraction. However, the male and female changing rooms were poor due to their small size and when they are busy it felt like trying to change on a crowded train. With so much water in such a small area it was hard not to get your clothes wet by touching the floor or bench.

The Chine is in a great setting with well landscaped grounds that lead directly to the beach.

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel which represents good value for money and whilst not yet four star it certainly comes close.

“Relaxing Post Christmas Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My husband and myself stayed at The Chine Hotel for 2 nights together with another couple (27-29th Dec 2011) as we were attending a Dancing function which was held at The Carrington Hotel close by. In total there were 7 couples who were attending the same function but staying at The Chine, where we were provided with two breakfasts and two 3 course evening meals, all of which were excellent quality. The staff were extremeley friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay with them pleasurable. They also arranged taxis for us on both evenings to our evening function. We were allocated a room with a sea view which was tastefully decorated (as was the rest of the hotel) and the bed was FIRST CLASS comfort!

The location of the hotel is quite central to the shops / beach / pier / park / promenade. There are some lovely walks close to the beach and the hotel. There was also ample parking space close to the hotel, although it's spread out. The hotel also provides excellent leisure facilities and caters very well for families. I enjoyed every aspect of my stay at The Chine and couldn't honestly find fault with anything. I would definitely visit this hotel again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor where we had excellent sea views.

My stay was to enable me attend an art cousre with Real Art Acadamey in Boscombe, but I soon established it was well located for the town and sea, Did not need the car until I was due to leave. Staff were first class and the rooms were spacious and well presented..

“Sadly theft ruined my break!”

My partner and I chose the Chine after reading some good reviews and the hotel and facilities themselves lived up to expectations. However, on the last day of my stay I had some underwear and make up stolen while I was out, totally around £30 in value. Not only was I upset to have lost these items, I also found it very uncomfortable as the underwear was tucked well away in my suitcase at this point and the thief must have rummaged through my whole bag to find it. Much to say, I found the whole experience very disconcerting. Furthermore, upon arrival despite having prepaid the full cost, our holiday started with a dispute with the reception staff who insisted we had done no such thing. After long-winded conversations with various members of staff it eventually became clear that we had paid after all. Overall, a very disappointing and expensive experience!
