“Simply the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed for a week at the Charterhouse for the 4th consecutive year in 2011 on this occasion in the new Superior room. Each year it actually becomes more and more difficult about what to write because everything is just fantastic in every respect, the hotel is spotlessly clean throughout, the bedrooms are so well appointed, the cooked breakfast is to die for, but above everything the hospitality is just amazing, we have said this before but it just does not feel like a hotel at all. Les and Marion work really make you feel so welcome from the minute you walk in until the minute you leave, you feel like you are staying with friends or relatives (the ones you like that is !) We have just read that they have been awarded the No 1 Travellers Choice Best Hotel for 2012, this is an award that they so richly deserve. We are already looking forward to staying at this wonderful hotel once again in 2012.

This was our 4th visit to Marion & Les's and as always Marion greeted us with a pot of tea and home made mince pies(it was the week before Christmas) look out Delia Smith you have competion. The garden room was ours as we have 2 four legged friends, laminated floor in case of muddy feet and a outside door which opens directly onto the patio also one directly into the hotel.Breakfast was as always fantastic and the choice of menu was never ending.Marion now makes her own bread "which complements" Les's homemake three fruit marmalade( sorry Les) all the rest of the produce is locally sourced. We had a great four days and were made to feel so very welcome as always, cannot wait for later in the year 2012 for our fifth and hopefully six visit.

“Fantastic Experience”

We recently spent 3 nights at the Charterhouse whilst visiting the area. Having spent countless nights in countless hotels around the world including some of the very best, we can honestly say we have never received such warm and genuine hospitality as we did from Marion & Les.

Room Tip: Choose the Riviera Suite if it's available, beautifully appointed and with a great view.

“Lone female business traveller”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Last week I stayed for two nights at this hotel.I hold a national role so therefore travel frquently alone.
This can sometimes be rather daunting, but The Charterhouse is the exception to the rule .
There was a lovely friendly greeting from Marion who showed me to a beautiful room with magnificent bay views from all three windows.
Breakfast cooked by Les ,Marions husband was the most delicious I have eaten in many years of travelling, all locally sourced produce.
After my meetings I returned to relax and feel at home, just wish Les would cook Dinner.
Absolutely lovely would go back tommorrow.
Kindest Regards
Junus

“Great B&B. Great Hosts.”

We stayed at the Charterhouse for 2 nights in November 2011 and were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves. Marion was so welcoming and kindly made us a pot of tea after our long journey, whilst sharing with us some of the best places to visit and eat in the town. Even though we were the only guests staying there, Marion gave us the impression that this was what she did for all guests.

We stayed in the Riveria room and having been recently refurbished, it was absolutely perfect. The bathroom had mood lighting with varying colours which was delightful while having a soak in the deep bath.

Breakfasts were fantastic, particularly with Marion's homemade bread and Les's famous breakfast chutney which complimented the locally sourced sausages perfectly.

If we ever found ourselves in Torquay, we would definitely stay here again as returning guests get a discount!

Thanks for making out stay so wonderful Marion and Les.
