“would not stay again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

- Room not ready at time of check in
- No bar & restaurant as advertised so had to go into town for meal
- Room still not ready an hour later
- En-suite was very smelly & not clean: toilet needed a good scrub and bleach, hair down plug hole of shower and about an inch of dust in the extractor fan and above the mirror.
- Towels had dirty marks on and when we asked for replacements we were told that there were no spares as hotel was full.
- At 3am we were woken by someone ringing the doorbell
- Faulty guttering meant that i was kept awake for hours by the sound of rain hitting the bay window ledge, so didn't even get a good night sleep
- Staff didn't seem too bothered when we complained

“Not for us...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

A couple of night stay. Not a complainer by any means, however could do with a good make over. Was given room at the top althought lower floors where empty. Avoiding the mattresses, hoover and workemans tools on the stairwells made it a bit of an assault course to get to our room at the top. No net curtain at window, no lamp shade on light and the shower curtain was running across the room and not bath, which means the floor is saturated after a shower. Hence the heavy damp smell in room as a whole. Luckily only had to sleep in the bed.

“OK but you could find better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Booked a double ensuite room and was given room on 3rd floor with no lift. Hard work climbing stairs. No parking available as advertised and had to payfor 2 days parking permits in street. Bathroom light did not work and neither did 1 bedside lamp. TV remote did not work even after changing batteries. Hotel is a little out of the way and requires about 20 minute walk to town for meals of quality. Overall an avergae hotel although breakfast was good and hearty and staff were friendly. bed (double) was ok but pillows were flat.

Room Tip: Ask for room on 1st floor and for a 4 poster bed

“Perfect location, very good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2010

Having a work contract for 6 weeks in Plymouth, I originally booked at hotel on the Alma Road, which was the noisest road in the city. With numerous hygene issues. So driving around the city I fell upon the Georgian.

What a difference, extremely inviting staff, couldn't do enough to help, even happy to move their own cars allowing me to park in the car park, which has spaces on a first come first served basis.

The room was a compact single, although with everything you need inclusing full en suite. Another room I had was a very spacious twin room, again with everything you need and expect with a hotel of this type.

The bedding was frequently changed and room & shower cleaned daily.

The breakfast was good and cooked / served by an extremely friendly lady...sorry I forget her name. In previous comments it is stated there are owners children running around over breakfast. Maybe they have calmed down or gotten older, ...yes they walked from the kitchen to their own lounge area, but sat quietly and didnt disturb me. To be honest, there was more noise coming from other guests then these two girls made!

The owner, Nancy, was always extremely polite and very friendly, as were all other members of her family.

Location - perfect for the ferry port AND Barbican & City Centre. All were under a 10 min stroll with some of the best resturants in Devon located in the Barbican.

In conclusion, I stayed here for more than 5 weeks and never felt inclined to look around for somewhere else. I would definately be back, and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this bed & breakfast. Give it a try.

“Good location could do with a visit from hotel inspector”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Reasonable price for a three night stay. However room was not very clean and the shower/toilet needed a good clean as when the toilet door was closed behind the door had not been cleaned lots of dust etc. Plumbing needs attention as the toilet flushed with hot water leaving little hot water to shower with. Room had had some skirting boards changed and in need of redoration curtains and nets needed cleaning. The bed was a good size king unfortunately the mattress was a double and pillows had been used to fill the gap at the bottom of the bed and when sitting on the bed had to remember not to sit on the edge. Breakfast did not resemble what the menu stated but the lady was helpful and pleasant
one item which was good value was the parking arrangement and being able to purchase a day ticket from the hotel and not have to park car elsewhere. Used this as a base to visit family for the weekend if I hadnt of had family to vist then the lounge area was not accessable as the family were using this and the I would of expected tea/coffee and cups changed daily in the room. I would recomend this for the price but dont expect anything outstanding budget hotel
