“Perfect lunch on a cold wet day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Came here after a wet and windy day exploring Cornwall!

It was 3pm out of season and we were welcomed by really friendly staff who took us through the lighter afternoon menu.

The pub was full of people chilling and reading newspapers as the weather got worse outside.

We had a couple of jacket potatoes washed down with a very nice pint of real ale.

Would heartily recommend and on this visit alone will be coming again!

“Room with a view”

Though we are locals, we only live 15 miles away, and have eaten at the Port William many times in summer, always sitting outside to enjoy the fine views over the beach, this is the first time we have enjoyed an overnight stay, and in winter too. What a delight, welcoming staff, so friendly manager, cosy room, so comfy bed, shower to die for, and mouth watering breakfast.
What more could one want on a cold winters evening, with the waves lashing below? Yes we will be back, and it will be before mid summer this time. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Nearly all rooms have sea views!

“Wonderful, secluded inn surrounded by rugged cliffs and crashing waves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We recently visited the Port William for the first time, accompanied by our large dog, and stayed for 5 nights. On booking, I mentioned that we'd need a room suitable for the pooch and they recommended Room 8 as the most suitable, albeit with a reduced view of the sea.

The room was excellently decorated and features a four-poster bed with the most comfortable handmade fleece mattress I've slept on in ages - a real tonic, being a bad back sufferer. Room 8 also has the advantage of being at the end of the corridor, nearest the fire exit and outside stairs, making it easier to pop in and out with the dog. A tray was provided inside the room for placing your muddy footwear on, which I thought was a nice touch. The complimentary tea/coffee tray was generously stocked, including a variety of teas.

The bar was very inviting and comfortable, especially when outside it was windy and rainy - there's nothing better than coming in from a windswept walk to a roaring log fire and a pint! There was a good selection of pub grub, nothing fancy, but plenty of choice and all well cooked and there was no problem changing the accompaniments if you didn't fancy what was listed. We loved the whole atmosphere in the bar - whether it was packed or there were only a few customers around, it was welcoming and comfortable and we found all the staff to be friendly and helpful.

All-in-all, a most excellent stay and we can't wait to return.

“Most comfortable bed and best cooked breakfast....ever !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Not only are the views from both the bar/restaurant AND the bedrooms amazing, looking out at the sea here is a truly relaxing, almost hypnotic experience. Even with only light winds, and an otherwise calm sea, the waves swelled up and kept crashing on to the shore throughout, making the view interesting as well as beautiful. I had a lovely room, and the bed was the most comfortable that I've ever slept in ! A guy behind the bar told me next morning that the beds were all new with special mattresses. As for the cooked full English breakfast - not only delicious but a huge portion, which was fine by me ! Also, it included baked beans and fried bread - my personal favourite ingredients, and not always available at other hotels and inns.
I enjoyed it all so much, that, as I've got next week off work as well. I'm seriously seeing if I can re-book a night or two then also. That's another thing - sensational value for money !
Thanks to all the staff !

“lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We have visited the Port William many times over the last 20 years or so but this is the first time that we have been lucky enough to stay. The occasion was my Sisters "Big" birthday. There were 4 of us and two dogs.

The welcome was very friendly and our rooms lovely, the views amazing. I had to keep looking out at the crashing waves throughout the night !. Our room was nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. the plumbing was a little quirky but not a big issue. The Staff were very helpful.

The food on both evenings and the breakfasts were exactly as expected, lovely haddock and poached eggs ang great prawns and steaks. The live band was fun and not too noisy

Will definately be returning, the weekend before Christmas was wonderful as everywhere is so peaceful. Thank you to all the Team at the Port William for making it a very happy and memorable weekend. Our dogs loved it too. We will be back.
