Although I was not as lucky as a previous reviewer in getting the (they only have one single) room for £19, I still thought it a good deal at just under £30. The room is not a broom cupboard as in some other hotels, and is fairly spacious and nicely furnished, with a tiny but good en-suite. Of course, as expected, it overlooks the kitchen area, not the sea!
I found the hotel clean and comfortable, in a superb location with views from the large front patio area over the cliff tops and the beautiful beach of Porth.
The beach is gorgeous, a narrow (300m wide) cove between high headlands, which extends right out past the cliffs at low tide, nearly half a mile I estimate. The fabulous sands are safe for bathing, except at the right hand side where a river has carved a channel on its way to the sea. It is easily accessed, in about 5 mins, from the hotel by a series of steps right beside the entrance which take you under the road and down a steep lane to the beach, or by walking down the hill to the Mermaid Inn which stands right on the beach itself. A great place to watch the sun go down, serving excellent food til 10pm at night.
There is also a bus stop right outside the hotel, with frequent buses into Newquay a couple of miles away.
Altogether a very good hotel, in a great spot. Breakfasts are good, the bar is cheap. I got so relaxed there that I almost couldn't be bothered to go out and sightsee. Only iffy thing I could say is that they appear to have fewer spaces in their car park than they have rooms, sometimes causing a few problems.
