“Great place.....but could be better!!”

We stayed in a wonderful house, one of about 130 similar properties on the complex. This is a hidden gem of a location, only minutes from Falmouth, its town and beaches. The property (we were in No 47) was excellent. Well equipped, clean and spacious. There are no complaints at all.

The staff who run the place are great. polite and helpful.

This is where the improvement could be.....The Bar and Restaurant. Although situated in the middle of Pendra Loweth, it seems to be a totally seperate entity. It is run by two female staff and all these comments relate to the old of the two.

1) Whilst enjoying my first pint in the bar, a young girl aged about 6 - 8 walked to the bar and very politely asked whether she could have a glass of water. She was met with "Are you eating here?" The girl replied "No". The response was "This is a restaurant and if you are not eating you can't have water. Anyway I am too busy" The place had 3 - 4 customers!

2) One evening we returned to the complex at about 11.15 pm (having been to the cinema) we were met with a flood in the house we had rented. The dishwasher had gone wrong....Whilst I tried to stem the floor of water which was now spreading across the ground floor, my wife went to the only place open at that time of night, the bar. She explained the situation and was greeted with "Its nothing to do with me" My wife insited politely that she contact the site manager and after 3 attemppts, the older women EVENTUALLY made a call to the site manager. Clearly there is an on-going issue here where the owners of the site lease the bar.....but to me, someone on holiday, i only see 'staff' and when help is asked for, I would expect this to be forthcoming.

3) The final straw came when one evening about 4.30 pm I was sat inside the bar area....alone. The older woman came over and asked "Can I help you?" I replied "No, I am fine thanks" She replied quite abruptly "This is a bar and restaurant you know" and walked off. I left and never returned.

no. 1 and 2 were reported to the site owners but it was clear that nothing was going to be done.

Pendra Loweth is a great place to stay but the set up with the bar and restaurant is odd to say the least. The older woman has NO customer care and is quite rude. When i stay at a hotel, if i sit in the bar area and choose not to drink, but to read the paper, I am not insulted and made to feel bad. For this reason I would not recommend the complex. Should this situation alter, then it would get 5 *

If you have no intention to use the bar or restaurant, then this is a great place and I would then recommend it.

I hope this is helpful.

“Excellent base for exploring Cornwall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

We (two adults and 4-year old) stayed at Pendra Loweth for a week in early August. We booked a cottage via a private owner, so had little contact with the site owners/staff, so cannot comment on them.

The site is very well maintained, with nice gardens and a stream running through it.

The on-site facilities are limited, with a teeny plunge pool and jacuzzi next to the gym. We couldn't really see the point of that, apart from perhaps immersing oneself after a work-out. The reception/bar area has WiFi, which is great as being in a valley there is little mobile reception (although my wife got a signal with T-Mobile). But it's supposed to be a holiday, so not being in touch 24/7 makes a nice change! The bar is small but seemed popular, we only ate there once - the food was average - edible but nothing special. Should have tried the curry as that looked better than our choices! Not really an issue as the self catering facilities were excellent and there are loads of places to eat a short drive away.

Our cottage was great. Two bedrooms, plenty of room for four (although with bunks so perhaps not four adults). Very well appointed and very clean.

The site is popular with families, and our son found some new friends to play with on the lawns, when the weather allowed.

It's not really close enough to anything to holiday there without a car (and there are some seriously steep hills on the way to the beaches), but everything you need is only a short drive away. There *is* a sandy beach close by, contrary to a previous reviewer - Maenporth beach, and it's great but busy at peak times. Fab little cafe and shop, small boat hire, nice sand and very sheltered. Other beaches are also fairly close - Swanpool is pebbly, smaller and also has a great cafe, and Gyllyngvase is nearer Falmouth with all it's facilities and shops. Pitch and Putt and Crazy golf are very close ot the site, as was a maize maze open in August, although we didn't find the time to explore that.

Pendra Loweth is a quiet and relaxing base for exploring Cornwall, less than an hour in one direction to the Eden Project, and about the same in the other to Penzance and beyond. We found loads to do in the locality for a week of changeable weather, and will probably be going back.

“Cottage superb, facilities on site v.poor”

Accomodation
We stayed in a 3 bed en-suite and it was fabulous, clean, well kept and spacious for mum, dad, nan and grandad and our 2.5yr old toddler. location wise the area itself is beautiful and peaceful and felt v. safe. Really excellent and highly recommended as a home from home!

Venue and location
We arrived on a sat and chose to eat at the bar - food was processed/frozen/very bad! We didnt eat there again. plunge pool is the size of a bath tub and the "spa" is a jacuzzi and steam room! There are no amenities within walking distance so it was a pain to drive to the local stores/town/eateries every day, sometimes more than once. No sandy beaches locally, swan pool is very nice howeve shingly and harsh on the feet! We drove over to St Ives. Falmouth is a lovely town/harbour is really pretty. Overall we thought the cottage and setting was spot on but were dissapointed that there wasnt more to do/see on site or near by. Reception said they sell essentials in the summer-season, however we tried to get bread on 20th June or thereabouts and they didnt have any - just news papers! we felt that the bar staff not overly welcoming so didnt feel keen on returning there after one visit either!

Tips
Do a "big" shop for your stay so you arent constantly irritated at the drive in to town for provisions!

Take trips out for the day - Flambards was excellent and only 30min drive. St Ives has some fabulous beaches.

Driving locally is rather hair-raising, lots of blind bends and one track roads, not for the faint hearted.

“Lovely cottages on a well desiged site.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2010

We stayed at Pendra Loweth for a week from April 7th to April 13th. We were visiting Falmouth for my step son's wedding, so stayed in our cottage (Number 54- Rivendell) with my son (6), step son (22), husband and my parents. There was plenty of room for everyone in the spacious cottage, great sized kitchen, bathroom and ensuite, the only little complaint I would have is the second double bed seemed quite small- but it was comfy! My grandparents(who are in their mid 80s) also joined us, staying in bungalow number 10. This was also well laid out and equipped, they were impressed.

We were joined at Pendra Loweth by my sisters and their families later in the week. We had booked cottages close to one another, number 54, 55 and 61 and the younger children loved being able to play on the green space and in the stream whilst we could see them from the patio areas, which caught the sun almost all day. The staff were most helpful at the time of booking, to ensure we were close by each other. All of the cottages were well laid out, very clean and well equipped.

There is no mobile phone signal on the site (as it is in a valley), which helps to make the holiday more restful in my opinion, but could be annoying for some. You can walk to the top of the hill and get a signal.

Falmouth itself is as lovely as ever, we used to live there so didn't do the tourist thing too much. Having said that we enjoyed eating out at The Falmouth Beach Hotel, lovely crab salad, the Gyllanvase Beach Cafe, the Swanpool beach cafe (fabulous bacon ciabata the morning after the wedding!) and The Trellawaren pub (slow service, lovely food). Paradise Park was also worth the trip to Hayle for the little people.

All in all, we had a brilliant stay and I definately will be booking up at Pendra Loweth again.

“Very good...”

We stayed at Pendra Loweth over the Easter weekend, mainly for a wedding happening in Falmouth. We stayed in number 15 'Honeysuckle' cottage, which was very comfortable and very well equipped. It was like a home away from home - nice sofas, nice table and chairs, good tv and dvd player, comfortable bed and plenty of hot water. The staff were very helpful and pleasant (don't pay attention to the negative reviews about the staff). The only disappointing thing, was the size of the bar, restaurant and 'plunge' pool and the opening times; there not very big. There is free wifi, but only in the reception area which is a bit of a pain. Over all, we were very impressed and hope to go back for a week in September/October time.
