I was treated to the overnight spa package at this hotel by my partner. First impressions of the hotel were fantastic - marble, gilt and chandeliers. For a 'Club room' however, the size of the room was disappointing, although nicely set out. Little touches such as complimentary bottles of water, toiletries, bathrobes and slippers were a nice addition, and made the extortionate price of the package a little more bearable. We ordered room service which arrived promptly and tasted fantastic! Did not take advantage of the free drinks and snacks in the Club lounge as part of our package however, as the lounge appeared to be quite rowdy and did not fit into the romance of our trip.
Another downfall was concerning the spa treatments. We assumed that by having 'joint' massages as part of the spa package we would be placed in a dual treatment room, however we were treated in separate rooms which was a little disappointing. It seems that there are no dual treatments facilities which was not specified when my partner rang up to make sure that this was possible. Also the massages were supposed to last for an hour yet we were only treated for half, and the pool which looked so large on the website was tiny!
Nevertheless the staff were very polite and helpful, and this did help to give us an enjoyable overall experience. I would not recommend however paying for the £190 spa package for only one night, when there are so many drawbacks to this hotel.
Stayed for a couple of nights (Fri/Sat) two weeks ago. Hotel Staff excellent, rooms very comfy and warm. Brilliant location, literally two minutes from the centre. Added bonus was secure car park. Would definitely stay again.
My wife and I have used this hotel for many years since it was a Moat Hotel, when visiting Chester for weekends away. We always enjoy the food although the menu is not extensive. The hotel scores because it is right in the center. Just walk out of the door and your are right in the shopping area.
This used to be my favourite corporate chain hotel, and when working in the area my first choice stop. I have probably stayed 30 times now.
Recently I've started to notice erosions in quality due to cost cutting: The biscuits on the in room tea tray used to be premium quality, recently they have become basic biscuits ( 2 packs of 3 plain digestives this visit). The toilet paper is now cheap, greyish and pulpy compared with how it was previously. Little things perhaps, but to me they make a difference.
On the plus side its clean, serves decent food and the staff here are superb- really friendly, so they alone will probably be my reason to visit again.
Tip: If you arrive by car after 5pm (but before 11.30pm) -and will leave between 6.30am and 9.30am the following morning DO NOT use the Hotel car park at £7.50 a night. Instead use the Trinity street car park at the level below the hotel car park as it costs £2 a night after 5 p.m provided you leave before 9.30 next morning (but be aware it is locked between 11.30 and 6.30 so you can;t get your car out between these times). This is a pay and display car park, and you will need the correct money.
