“Brilliant last minute weekend away.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

After a bit of a spur of the moment decision to spend the weekend in Chester & a quick browse on the relevant last minute websites we ended up at the Green Bough.
This was a brilliant decision!
Gorgeous room, & it was only the standard....the deluxe & above must be unbelievable. Tastefully decorated & furnished & very quiet. Compact but roomy enough for two.
Beautiful food in the restaurant in the evening-it was like being on Masterchef. The A La Carte was pricey, but justifiably so, with additional canapés, pre-starters, palate cleansers & stunning petit fours! Homemade honeycomb that was out of this world.
Breakfast was expansive with lots for healthy bods & not so healthy bods!
A great spontaneous decision-well recommended.

“A great culinary experience!”

I came here for a two day stay and catering package to learn how to expand my catering knowledge. The hotel was newly furbished and was very clean. I stayed at the hotel for dinner and the food was as good as expected. I had the smoked chicken and bacon starter that I now do myself. And the two day course was also very informative and I learnt how to prepare sea food which is something that I have never done before. I want to thank the two chefs for giving me an insight as to prepare food for a restaurant.

The only downside for me was there was a lot to learn and I did not get the opportunity to see all the amounts of ingredients that went into all that I did. I am sure that this is just an oversight on the hotels part but I was promised the recipies via email for all the dishes that we did so that I could practise at home. So far I have not received anything so I can only remember how to make the raspberry jam!

Overall a great experinece and thanks for looking after me. Ricky - The Old Rectory, Talyllyn.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room that is not near an outside door as we woken very early by others leaving with...

“What a find!!”

Forced to stay in Chester for a weekend business commitment, I decided on a marriage-saving recommendation provided by Trip Advisor for a hotel in Chester. We booked a Gourmet Getaway in a deluxe double. I asked before booking if my wife could check in early since I had my meeting to go to.

Janice and the staff could not have been more accommodating or helpful, providing a lovely upgrade to a junior suite, which was immaculately presented. Coffee served in the room was done with great style.

The meal in the evening was like the highlights from the final of Masterchef. It was a wonderful experience and would be a great way to be introduced to that experience. Thank you and well done.

The service throughout was superb. I particularly liked the way that young staff have been immaculately trained to the highest hospitality standards in the restaurant and front of house. All the staff seemed to know who we were without asking and who had ordered what, without the usual 'Who is the roast quail?' I am sure that the 4 young people we saw all have a bright future if they take away the standards that Janice and her team has inspired them with.

Completely recommended. If you want fish and chips there is a pub opposite!!

Room Tip: The junior suite we stayed in was spacious and well fitted.

“Great Hotel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

All the reviews of this hotel are totally justified!!

Stayed here for one night and booked the night before on special rate of £85 per room B&B. Hotel is 2 or 3 semi detached houses. Our room was Chomondeley which is EXACTLY as it looks on the piccie and in the adjacent building. Our room was bright, clean, immaculately decorated and Teddy waiting on bed with welcome message from Laura, the manager. In addition there was a plate with 4 chocolates and a beautifully sliced strawberry standing on parade spreading corner to corner of the plate + some more strawberries.

Furnishings, linen and towels were really luxurious in feel and in plenty supply. Shower gel and lotion etc. from the White Company.

Bed Very comfortable, very peaceful despite being on a main road. Parking good.

We were offered fresh milk on arrival to make our own tea and when we advised we had our own Laura came back with a small flask to keep the milk fresh.
Laura was very helpful with local advice without being pushy. We ate out that night and saw some of Chester.

Booked over the phone as wanted to ask specifically about wheelchair access. Laura was great and called back to advise of one concern in bathroom of room we were using which was fine from what she described. However, upon arrival, we found two steps up to reception, ramp was immediately available for larger step but electric chair failed on smaller step without my own ramp from the car. There was a large step to the outer building too which they got the ramp for. My chair can get through standard doors, but the bathroom door was too narrow and only by the fact that the door could not open enough. As we had been shown to the room by Laura herself, it was arranged immediately after discussion of numerous options, that the door was removed. Problem sorted!! Way beyond expectations.

Breakfast is honestly one of THE BEST I've ever had. All fruit were freshly prepared. Tables in dining room divine. Service superb and breakfast menu excellent. Really good quality food.

Despite access being previously described on hotel's own website as being suitable for wheelchair users, I still can not fault the hotel as the problem was sorted and did not deter from our enjoyment of our stay. Feedback regarding access was taken on board and within 24 hrs of our stay I received an email from Laura advising of the removal of this from their website.

A permanent wheelchair user without an assistant would struggle at this hotel at present. The scope is there to make it much more accessible without too much investment which I really hope they do, as I would love to stay again.

“Perfect birthday break at Green Bough Hotel”

My husband and I have just returned home from a long weekend stay at this award winning hotel and it truly deserves all the accolades it has received. The hotel has a very welcoming appearance with plenty of off-road parking space and is conveniently located a mile from the centre of Chester; a flat, easy walk or a short bus ride away. From the moment we checked in at reception, we were made to feel special by Janice and the wonderful staff. Our bedroom was beautiful and had the luxury of a delightfully comfortable and relaxing sitting room attached. The choice available and quality of the breakfasts was mouthwatering and we highly recommend the evening meals: delicious and beautifully presented. Attention to detail in all things was impressive and very welcome. However, it is the wonderful, helpful, friendly staff that really make this hotel stand out as a very special place to stay. We are really looking forward to a return visit. Thank you to Janice, James, Kylie, Michael and the other members of the Green Bough team for making our holiday such a happy and relaxing experience. David and Elaine, East Yorkshire.

Room Tip: All the rooms that we saw are spacious and beautifully decorated and furnished.
