“Amazing accommodation but some wear and tear”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We stayed in the room at the top of the building with the twin baths. It is a beautiful room in a magnificent building with amazing original features. We were there in January and there was 50% off food and cocktails whilst we were there which made it good value.

The central location was perfect & car park really close by and discounted rate applies upon checkout of the hotel. There was also free wifi in the hotel.

The only negatives really for us were that the shower didn't work properly so whilst the baths were nice for a night in, the became a necessity for us without hot water running through the shower. The hotel staff offered to get a plumber to have a look at it but we had to be in and out of the room as we were getting ready to go to a wedding so stuck to baths.
Also, the tiles on the step up to the shower & shower floor were coming away (the staff had 'cleverly' hidden this fact by putting a shower mat down on the floor!)

All in all a beautiful place to stay but needs perking up a bit and sorting the wear and tear bearing in mind it's supposed to be high end accommodation,

Room Tip: The rooms at the top whilst a bit of a trek to get to are well worth it for the original roof featur...

“Quirky, welcoming & perfect for every odd fellow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We planned our discreet, private wedding here and found that all the staff were really respectful of our wishes and didn't make any fuss. However, they made us feel so welcome and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. The food in the restaurant was excellent, good value and well presented. Breakfast was good and very generous.
We stayed here mid week and enjoyed the fact the place was very quiet but we believe it is usually very busy at the weekend and the bar turns into a club - great if you are looking for this, though it wouldn't appeal to us. Our suite was more like a standard room (another window would have been good) though the bathroom was a great freestanding bath and large shower.
Our highest praise and thanks must go to Jo ( the manager) who was so attentive, from booking until our departure: she is excellent at her job. The whole team are really committed to doing a great job and their enthusiasm shines through.
We would return here without a doubt and we found Chester beautiful - a very magical town.

Room Tip: book the master suite

“Lovely night away in a great city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed in the room with the 2 roll top baths. The staff were lovely and friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Room was amazing with bath robes, and a great mini bar! Very luxurious! Wish the hotel and bar had been a bit busier, but I think it was due to it being mid- week and just after the chester races. Only thing I would say is drink prices were expensive - but it was the same throughout Chester. I would definitely return probably for a weekend next time

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night in the loft room, wonderful and comfortable with an amazing bathroom!! we recieved great service from all of the staff and the main desk receptionist was fab, booking taxis and printing off directions for us.

definately not a cookie cutter hotel

Would stay here again without hesitation

Room Tip: Loft room :-)

“A Great Little Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We have just returned from a one night stay at Oddfellows. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the cocktail waiter who suggested some great places to eat and drink. We stayed in Room 4 which despite being a loft room was spacious and very comfortable although when we first arrived it did seem a little claustrophobic with just having the one small roof window but we soon got used to it. The bathroom had a roll top bath and a huge shower also with a roof window.
There are no lifts in this hotel and the hike up to the room could be quite difficult for people of a certain age. :-)
Breakfast is eaten in the Pantry which is also a cafe and open to the public. We loved the quirkiness of the decor and the food was cooked to perfection plus during January all food in the Pantry and restaurant had 50% off! Bonus!!
The car park is located just around the corner and cost £6.50 for 24 hour parking which I think is excellent for a city centre location.
The hotel is ideally situated and is only a couple of minutes walk into the city centre and for a walk along the river.
We stayed on a Friday night and have to say that we were not kept awake by the music, although that may have something to do with the alcohol consumed that evening.
If we were to stay again in Chester we would definitely return to Oddfellows.
