“Wonderful hotel, heavenly restaurant, friendly staff, perfect romantic break.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Just returned from a fabulous two night stay at this wonderful hotel. On arrival we were upgraded to a junior suite which was the icing on the cake. Our suite was very spacious and had the most amazing bathroom with an LCD TV at the bottom of the bath, walk in monsoon rainshower, heated floor and bathrobes. The tea and coffee making facillities in the room were the best I have ever seen, with filter coffee pouches, blackcurrent tea, a tea pot and fresh milk. There was a thermostat on the wall so even though it reached -14 degrees last night outside, our room was lovely and warm.
We ate most of our meals in the hotel and were so impressed with the food and the attention to detail. I had to take a picture of two of my desserts as they looked so beautiful. Every single detail from the delicious warm fennel bread roll to the hand made chocolates at the end were just delicious. Every mouthful was divine. Even the jam and marmalade at breakfast tasted homemade. Every single meal I ate there was just heaven on a plate!
But what also sets this hotel apart from others is the friendly staff who seem to anticipate your every need and just make you feel so spoilt. Even down to the restaurant manager putting an extra log on the fire when we had coffee in front of it. I really cannot praise them highly enough and would really like to thank them for our lovely stay.
The hotel itself is just beautiful, with interesting artwork everywhere. The restaurant is so pretty and with a snowy winter wonderland scene out side every window, the log burning fire was mesmerising. The conservetory was just so bright and colourful and the floral arrangements so attractive. It really was so relaxing to sit there after breakfast reading the papers and drinking tea.
It really was a wonderful stay, made even more special by the wonderful service. Thank you Hotel Felix. I am sure we will come again.

Wow, praise indeed! It is such a pleasure for us to know that we helped to make your experience such a good one. We do make every effort to be as attentive to our guests’ needs as possible and it is so rewarding to have these efforts so encouragingly remarked upon. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write your review and we do hope to be able to welcome you back to the Felix again soon.

“Pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed during the February cold snap. Heating in the room struggled to keep up.
Staff are friendly & helpful.
Room clean with very comfortable bed, bath and separate rain shower.
Don't eat the packet of crisps on the desk - unless you want to pay £1.70. The wi-fi is free and the connection was good for the two nights of my stay.
Good continental breakfast (included in rate) anything cooked is extra.
The hotel is generally quiet but some dipsticks returning to their rooms late at night don't care about slamming their room doors shut which makes a racket to wake you up.

By the way although they take American Express for payment you are made to feel a leper for using it!

We must apologise if you felt chilly during your stay with us! The heating system was operating at a maximum and we felt we were doing a good job of keeping everyone warm, so were disappointed to hear of your experience! I wonder if you mentioned this issue to reception staff? We certainly would have done anything within our power to try to rectify the situation. There should always be a price card displayed alongside the crisps alerting guests to the charge so, again, I apologise if this was not obvious.
Unfortunately we cannot always monitor the behaviour of all of our guests and I am sorry if your peace was disturbed.

“Could be perfect but lack of attention to details”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We had a junior suite for 4 (parents and 2 kids). It could be perfect but when I pay 310£ a night, I except more attention to details... Lots of web spider on the ceiling. We order room service: 4 cokes but only 2 glasses. When dinner was finished, we called the reception so that then can take the tray back: no one after 20min so that we left the tray in the corridor. At the restaurant, eventhough it was not busy, we got a table juste next to the kitchen's door. Every 30 secondes, someone was coming in-coming out with an unwelcoming fresh air for us. We asked to have an other table and that was no problem. The food was ok but not wondefull and the guy next to us had to complain about his dessert. And well, a candle is nice but a clean one would be even better (not with crumbs of all kinf of food in it). The best was salt & pepper that you don't want to touch because it's look damaged and so dirty! But service was very warm and polite, the athmosphere is very nice as well. Too bad there is such a lack of attention to details!

We are so sorry to hear that your stay with us was in some ways spoilt by our lack of attention to detail. I would like to assure you that we pride ourselves on the continuity we employ when it comes to areas of service, but clearly on the day that you stayed with us, we let ourselves down.
Unfortunately you were only given two glasses with the cokes as the order went through from reception with a request for two meals and so the bar staff considered that the drink request was for two large cokes (two bottles per glass). Staff were aware that two adults were to eat in the restaurant later in the evening and wrongly assumed that the two large cokes were just for your children. I’m sorry that you weren’t comfortable with your position in the restaurant. The majority of our customers do not have an issue with the position of this table but we recognise that for some guests this particular location can be distracting. We had already put in an order for Salt and Pepper dispensers when your review was posted so new ones will be in the restaurant soon. Though our dispensers were tired looking, I can assure you that they were always kept thoroughly clean. The candles have sand in them and to our knowledge do not get crumbs in them, but we have certainly double checked in response to your review.
We’re also very disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your meal with us but would really hope that perhaps you will return to give the Hotel and Graffiti restaurant the chance to impress you.

“Nice property - experience just seems to lack something?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I've stayed in Cambridge on business quite a few times over the years and generally stay at one of the hotels in the centre of the City (which vary a bit, but they have some deals if you shop around and avoid Graduation weekends!)

On this weekend, we'd gone as a couple and decided to make a bit of a relaxing time out of it, and the location of the hotel helps that very much. The Felix is just under two miles from the centre, although it's possible to walk into town if you're fit and active - of which more later. The deal we got on Expedia was okay as well, which probably swung our decision. We normally book directly through the hotel website in the hope of getting given a decent room with a view, but the Expedia deal was half the price, so hey-ho - and you don't get many views on wet January evenings in any case.

A decent view it wasn't, although I've seen less scenic car parks, admittedly. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and first impressions of the room (notwithstanding the car park) were good. There are some nice touches such as fresh milk in the mini bar for your hot drinks and toiletries from The White Company (if such things interest you and you feel like eeking them out to take home!). The showers are also very good and have a rainbath-type fitting, which means you can do your rendition of Singing in the Rain to your heart's content. The underfloor heating is nice on the tootsies when you get out.

Breakfast was a bit of a poor affair, really. Having eaten across the road at the Beefeater the first night (well, come on, if you got the room cheap, you wouldn't be in the market for the restaurant prices in this hotel) we were eager to see what the hotel food was like. Continental breakfast is included in the room rate I think, but if you fancy a hearty kipper - well, anything cooked, actually - you'll need another £7.50 each. Porridge is free, so if you're up for the latest fad in healthy breakfasts you'll presumably not want the full English to follow!
Could've done with a better choice of fruit at breakfast though, methinks. However, the roaring fire in the restaurant is free so you could toast yourself for nothing...

It's good to go to a hotel where everything is clean and fresh, and on this count the Felix scores extremely well. No tatty wallpaper, leaking baths or threadbare carpets in sight - far from it, in fact. All freshly cleaned and well-kept. The overall ambience is pretty refined and select, which left me wondering why this is the only hotel in the last year where I've been woken up at 3am by rowdy guests.

Would we stay there again? Possibly. It's not a business hotel, so it's great for a leisure weekend away. For business in Cambridge it's not great, though, as you'd have to get into town and park somewhere, which would be a bit of a sting in Cambridge. It's £8 each way in a taxi, BTW. You could always catch the bus, but if you do, don't ask the hotel for a timetable, as the one they gave us was two years out of date ... a fact that became painfully clear as we glimpsed the bus sail past the end of the road. It's 25 minutes walk to town, as we discovered ... perhaps makes up for the lack of fitness centre?

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor.

“Poor initial service, but pulled it back and more.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Our introduction to this hotel was to meet the reception manager from Fawlty Towers.
She was shocking, and had it not been for the smooth intervention of the duty manager, we would have left.
The room was small but clean and comfortable. Internet was fine.
Only used the restaurant for breakfast which was very good, and well presented by helpful staff.
There had been a wedding celebration, but we were not able to hear it, and were in no way inconvenienced by the couples big day, not something one is always able to say.
Very good location for Cambridge and the surrounding area.
Would recommend it.
