I stayed in this hotel for one night. I had a single ensuite room ( room no157). I was a bit wary having read the reviews and I was positively surprised.
Positives:
1. The room was clean
2. The room was quiet (at the back of the building)
3. Although on the small size, I was able to move around it ok
3. A lovely hospitality tray and nice toiletries in the bathroom - If I'd known, I wouldn't be bringing my own shampoo and body lotion
4. Disposable slippers! Hairdryer! Ipod docking station! Writing pad and pen! (also TV but I didn't use it)
5. Location - 10 mins from King's College and 15 mins from the train station, I walked everywhere
6. Breakfast room staff very friendly and attentive
7. Good mattress. After I threw all the throws and cushions off the bed, it was actually quite comfy!
Negatives:
1. The amount of stuff in the room - i.e. there was something everywhere, and not much space to put my stuff on the vanity table/chest
2. I didn't manage to get the heater to work -it's one of those all in one that have heating, cooling and drying function. I am technologically savvy, but when I set it to heating, only the fan came on. I was too tired to talk to reception
3. The receptionist was a bit glazed over, not particularly friendly, and indeed there were quite a few people sprawled in the lounge who seemed to have a loud and queening attitude - but then, I wasn't one to hang around the lounge, I went to my room
---
The breakfast itself was ok. Nothing to write home about, and some weirdness with two chocolate cakes, and watery mushrooms, but as a non-egg eating vegetarian I was able to graze quite nicely.
The room was paid for by my employer - £90 - I usually go for cheaper hotels/b&bs, but I'd stay again if I could afford it. I think it depends what room one gets here, and I was lucky!
Room Tip: 157 was a good room for 1 person. would be a bit of a squeeze for 2.
