This pub is in the middle of no where and best reached with a four wheel drive. The bars had a good atmosphere and the food we ate including breakfast was very good. However, we stayed in room 5 and it was definitely not 4 star. The room and bathroom had not been cleaned to a 4star or £90 per night standard. The mirrors had clearly not been cleaned, although the towels and bedding were very clean. The toilet had a dirty mark in it. The carpet was very grubby. The tea making facilities were in the bottom of the wardrobe with nowhere else to place them other than on the floor. The balcony door would not open and staff told us you had to push the handle up hard which we had already tried. Good job we didn;t want to use it as it was raining. The shower was very good, hot and powerful but the rooms generally need a spring clean - a carpet cleaner and a couple of new lampshades together with a good dust would make all the difference to a tired room. The keys we were handed didn't open the access door when the pub was shut. The reception we got from the bar staff when we arrived was not very welcoming as he couldn't speak much english - or chose not to. All in all the pub has obviously got a good reputation, but if the management don't get to grips with the cleanliness of the furnishings thorughout, people may not be recommending this place much longer. It would be interesting to know when they were last rated.
