“Absolutely wonderful....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2011

Inn was in a lovely location, tucked away amidst the rolling hills and country lanes. Room (3) excellent - spotlessly clean, very spacious, and a sitting area - in fact everything we wanted for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Breakfast very good (always served with a welcome and lovely smile) and evening menus in bar excellent. Although bar was crowded during our stay, it was not unpleasant and added to the atmosphere of a typical country pub. Would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone we met at Hunters Inn for their hospitality (including Reggie the dog!) and for making our weekend stay absolutely wonderful. Would we return? You bet!!!

“Excellent, again!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2009

Stayed here a couple of years ago and loved it. So when some friends from London wanted to meet up for a weekend away I suggested The Hunters Rest as its about half way.
It was as good as ever, our rooms were spotlessly clean and well presented. The manager and staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother. We ate on the first night and the food was great. On the Saturday we went to the Thermae Spa, which was amazing, even/especially in the rain! We ate at Woods restaurant which was very good, and got back to the pub for a couple of drinks in the snug with the local chicken farmers, ( we even bought some eggs)!
Breakfasts were really good, all cooked to order, so always fresh and hot.

“Good but not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

This pub is in the middle of no where and best reached with a four wheel drive. The bars had a good atmosphere and the food we ate including breakfast was very good. However, we stayed in room 5 and it was definitely not 4 star. The room and bathroom had not been cleaned to a 4star or £90 per night standard. The mirrors had clearly not been cleaned, although the towels and bedding were very clean. The toilet had a dirty mark in it. The carpet was very grubby. The tea making facilities were in the bottom of the wardrobe with nowhere else to place them other than on the floor. The balcony door would not open and staff told us you had to push the handle up hard which we had already tried. Good job we didn;t want to use it as it was raining. The shower was very good, hot and powerful but the rooms generally need a spring clean - a carpet cleaner and a couple of new lampshades together with a good dust would make all the difference to a tired room. The keys we were handed didn't open the access door when the pub was shut. The reception we got from the bar staff when we arrived was not very welcoming as he couldn't speak much english - or chose not to. All in all the pub has obviously got a good reputation, but if the management don't get to grips with the cleanliness of the furnishings thorughout, people may not be recommending this place much longer. It would be interesting to know when they were last rated.

“Fantastic place with only a minor "but..."”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2009

This place is a gem, nestled deep in the beautiful English countryside. It is also one of the few places near Bath that will allow one night stays at the weekend, a boon if you cannot escape for two nights. We stayed in Room 2 which has a shower and no bath but what a shower - huge and powerful, loved it. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, the room clean, "boutique-y" feeling and a good size, there was also a balcony to enjoy the glorious views. The evening meal was great and the resturant packed, a testament to how good this place is as it is hard to find. Happily as a resident you get a reserved table, otherwise it would have been a long wait! Breakfast was absolutely wonderful, the best I've eaten so far in an hotel.

However there are a few "buts"... The restaurant smells wafted directly into the room so having the window open during cooking times was unpleasant as was sitting on the balcony. There was nowhere to plug in the kettle - it had to remain on the floor. This also mean that using a hairdryer and straightening irons was a contorted affair and there is no dressing table in this room. These are minor gripes but perhaps a high level plug and extra table with mirror should have been provied - it would certainly have made the room more easy to use.

Those moans aside I would definately return here - it is a glorious place at a remarkable price - but I would avoid room 2!

“Perfect for relaxing weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2008

Lovely place to stay - friendly staff, gorgeous rooms, completely in the middle of nowhere so wonderful for a special relaxing break. Would definitely go back - food great, wide range of drinks and the Manager goes the extra mile to help with any special requests. A perfect find.
