Reading other reviews, I was not expecting such a pleasant stay at The Grange. The staff were extremely welcoming and our rooms were very clean and comfortable. We are vegans and we had a lovely vegan breakfast.

This is without doubt the worst hotel either of us have ever stayed in. We were desparate as our daughter was moving in to college and we needed somewhere to stay quickly. We paid £70 for the privilege but in retrospect would have done better to sleep in the car. I can only agree with some of the previous reviews about the grubby condition of the whole place. We slept on top of the bed as we didn't fancy the cleanliness of the bed and having seen the place avoided the breakfast too. The staff must know what it is like because the form to rate your stay was tatty and looked like someone had sat on it. Only a small detail but they didn't get any of the big ones right either. The sign 'no money kept on these premises' is not there for nothing. Broken glass in the carpark gives you a picture of what it was like. When we left the staff member did not even ask whether we had enjoyed our stay which was probably as well.. How anyone can rate this hotel as anything other than terrible is beyond me.

The Grange Hotel is a rather tired hotel that gets away with the sort of prices it charges due to its convenient location between Bath and Bristol.

The included breakfast is the definitely a plus point – although the service didn’t match the quality of the food. The free parking is also a boon – and the option of getting a bus to either Bath or Bristol will be appreciated by those without their own transport.

There was a friendly welcome at reception, and a willingness to resolve issues, but it can’t hide the tired rooms. I can see why some people have struggled with the TV, as there is a trick to ensure the TV switches to display the input from the Freeview box. The fact the hotel has added Freeview boxes rather than providing a basic Freeview TV has bitten them with dissatisfied guests who can’t work the combination – and also that the two desk power sockets are used up by these two devices. (the receptionist helpfully found an adaptor to allow the desklight to be used – handy as the room light wasn’t working.

The view out of the window was to a vehicle – but at least there was no traffic noise problem !

To be fair, I was given a free upgrade to a non-refurbished double room – and warned the room wasn’t as good as the refurbished single rooms – but those that pay the price for a double room and get this room may be disappointed.

The standard rooms are very small, there is hardly room to move around. I also caught my finger on a protruding nail when turning on the bedside light.
The bathroom was poor, there were loose tiles at the back of the toilet. The bath did not have a proper show, but the type of bath tap with ta shower attachment, it was difficult to control the temperature of the water.
The breakfast on the Saturday morning was very good, but on the Sunday morning was poor.
