“To be recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We visited the Grange Hotel in Keynsham because we were looking for one night's accommodation near Bath. This offered the best value for money. Although we didn't request it, we were given the Penthouse Suite at the very top of the hotel, because there was an engagement party that evening. We were so far away that the noise didn't bother us at all. The room was lovely. It was spacious, clean, warm with a full hospitality tray and toiletries. I would definitely return to this hotel.
The only slight criticism is that the breakfast choice was limited, but it was perfectly cooked and served with a smile.

“Oh dear!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

This hotel is a trip back to childhood for those in their mid-forties, like me, but not in a nice way. From the mixed wool carpet that didn't match the floral curtains to the flock wallpaper and the avocado bath suite this is comfortably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in bringing back memories of the decade taste forgot, the 1970s.

This nostalgic nightmare aside, the non-power shower with cold water, the burnt iron, the receptionist/waitress/everythingist wandering around in her jogging bottoms, the chef bringing me the food himself, the dirty windowsills and and general air of dilapidation are all inexcusable elements of a stay that was not worthwile.

A shambles - shut it down.

“better than expected, will stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

After reading the reviews i was a little sceptible but we chanced it. I arrived late and spoke to them in transit to say i'd be arriving late, 15mins after kitchen closes but they were accommodating and i had an excellant dinner. I stayed in a double room which looked like it had recently had a refurb and i was surprised how lovely the room was with a sofa and the bathroom was great. Breakfast was good especially the scramble eggs. Although service was slow they are making an effort and the rooms at the back of the main building are under going a refurb. having stayed at Chewton manor 2 weeks ago this was a refreshing change to the poorly lit rooms and soul lessness where i felt i was subsidisng a wedding venue for avon. I'll defineatly stay again and the rotarians had a good meeting.

“Would have a better nights sleep in the car”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

We stayed here for one long night with family. We had two family rooms, the 'penthouse' and a single room. The whole place could do with a major update (the single room in particular was dire) but to be fair seemed very clean. Upon arrival we were told that there was a party that night, we were not informed of this on booking, apparently we should have been. Our booking was not made until 4 weeks before, so we should have been informed as far as I am concerned. Our room, unfortunately, was above the function room. We could hear everything that was going on at the function, which included a disco. To be fair this was not a rowdy crowd - think it was a 60th birthday - but when you go away for a relaxing weekend away (with children) you do expect to be able to get some sleep before 1am!! There is a bar - but this in in the function room where the private party is going on - very uncomfortable. The function finished at midnight - and then the moving around of furniture downstairs continued for the next hour - heard all the staff say their goodbyes in the carpark outside the bedroom window and heard them return the next day at 8am. Was not impressed. However, if you are lucky enough to have booked the penthouse it would not be too bad - just a dull rumble. However, the plus points, clean rooms, a large good breakfast (not including the mouldy toast) and the staff were very friendly. Would I return? No. Not unless I was actually attending a funtion there myself, and didn't want to sleep until the function ended. Can't actually believe that these rooms are let to anyone not attending a function here.

Room Tip: Only stay in the 'penthouse'

“Simply terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2011

Myself and my husband stayed at the hotel last saturday and I have to say the Grange Hotel is by far the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was not clean, the window was broken and the staff was not helpful. We went out on saturday afternoon and on our return we found out the hotel was hosting a large party with a live band! The music did not stop until very late at night. The staff did not have the courtesy to inform us at the time of the booking or indeed at the check in that the event was going to take place. We actually had to go twice to look for the staff in the kitchen since there was not one at the reception. I would not recommend this hotel.
