“typical village pub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

this is in an excellent location with easy access to the M4 and M5 motorways. There is a carpark which is a public carpark, pay and display that you are provided a ticket for from reception when you check in so that you dont have to pay. the lady checking me in was very charming and more than helpful. i was in room 7 which had an eclectic mix of furniture, modern lights, old fashioned wardrobes. this was supported by the painted beam in the ceiling making it a comfortable room to stay in. it was compact, enough room for myself but it was a double room so maybe lacking in space for 2 people. the bathroom was very modern. however it had not been cleaned properly. the was still talcum powder on the floor from previous guests and this extended to the frames of the shower door. also there were water marks still on the shower door showing that it has not been cleaned properly. not a big problem but not sure how it was missed. the rest of the room however was very clean. in the evening i had a drink in the bar which was very busy, there wasnt a table to sit at. breakfast in the morning was pleasant, very filling. apart from the dirty bathroom it was a very nice stay, excellent location for getting in to bristol

“Charming Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

From the moment we arrived we were pleased that we had picked to stay in such a lovely oldy worldy pub. Our room was lovely and clean and comfortable (if a little too warm) the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was also very good, especially the breakfast the following morning.

“Lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

My partner and I stayed here for one night on our way to somewhere else. Excellent location in a gorgeous little village and our room was really nice. Very modern and spotlessly clean for an old inn and although the bathroom was tiny it had everything in there you needed and again was modern and clean. We had room 15 which was over reception and you could hear some bar noise but its stopped after 11pm and wasn't an issue for us. We had period features in our rooms with old beams and a fireplace. We ate in the bar (it was almost full at 6pm) and the food and service was excellent. I'd recommend a stay here if you're passing through and I wouldn't hesitate in booking to stay here again.

“Nice, clean, friendly village pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

My partner and I stayed at the Bowl Inn for one night only in September en route from visiting family in Cardiff and visiting more family the following day in Derby prior to our return to Lancashire. From the moment we saw it we were 'Bowled over' it is the sort of pub you see on postcards and in a beautiful quiet village. We were met by the friendly receptionist who allocated us the 'Blue Room' which was spotlessly clean and well appointed, the slight worry we had was that it was right over the bar and on a Sunday afternoon it was quite noisy with the locals having a catch-up, we need not have worried as the place was as quiet as the next door church come 2230. The food in the restaurant was excellent and obviously prepared to order, reasonably priced and decent portions, we later had drinks in the adjoining bar and I particularly enjoyed the selection of real ales, a good nights sleep was enjoyed followed by an excellent breakfast which was cooked to order, all the staff we met - including the chef were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay at the Bowl Inn again and would recommend a walk round the church and village.

Very impressed with our overnight stop. Decent sized room which was clean and well equipped. Enjoyable evening meal and breakfast, using locally produce, with a blackboard explaining where the food was sourced.Good choice of 4 local real ales. Friendly efficent staff.

Very handy for M5 as only 5 minutes away, and an idea stop over and offered excellent value.
