We stayed 3 nights at the Whitehouse and it was cheap and central, but the area is pretty grotty. We didn't know the city and the most upmarket place we could find to eat within easy walking distance, apart from chippies and kebab shops, was MacDonalds! The guest house itself is very clean and the bed was comfy, but the breakfast was dreadful - we didn't bother after the first morning. If you like white bread and cereals with what tasted like long life milk, you'll be fine. But the main problem was that the walls are paper thin and it was very noisy! You can hear everything that's going on in the rooms around you and it felt like there were doors slamming all night! The car park has only 5 spaces, is tight to get into and not regulated in any way, so if there's something on at the music venue next door, you may not get a space. It seems to be run along the lines of a hostel and next time, I'd go for a family run B&B.

The review by ThatRoger nicely summed up our one night stay. The walk to the city centre for us was nearer 10-15 minutes. There is a handily placed locals estate pub within 100 yards with a good range of ales.

All we needed was a bed for a couple of nights and a bite to eat to start the day. What we got was definitely above average from the "Charmin" toilet paper in the well designed, spacious bathroom; to the hooks on the backs of the bedroom and bathroom doors; large, comfy, warm beds; continental breakfast to rival 3* European hotels, with a wide range of cereals, fresh fruit, bread, butter, jam, marmalade, cheese slices and processed ham, tea, coffee and fruit juice with 2 4-slice toasters and a microwave available and accessible at all times. A clean, quiet and well-run establishment.

A pleasant 5-10 minute walk into town, leaving the car in the car-park at Whitehouse for the duration of our stay.
