We enjoy using B&Bs as one-night stop-overs and always aim to find somewhere with architectural interest. The Old Parsonage is unique in this respect, as it's grade 2star listing would imply.
Our welcome was businesslike rather than warm and the owner displayed a rather detatched manner throughout the stay. She put us in mind of a abrupt and rather strict old-fashioned school mistress.
Our room was spacious and comfortable with a well equipped en-suite. Everything was in good clean order. Certain details of the decor clashed with the quality of the building. Off the peg, DIY store, plaster ceiling roses and a self-assembly four poster bed, with fixing bolts very much in evidence, were disapointing.
A welcoming cuppa and cake would have gone down well, as it was, there was a kettle in the room with tea/coffee sachets and not even a biscuit.
As is so often the case, TV viewing was uncomfortable. Why is seating so rare in B&B rooms? We didnt notice a TV in the lounge.
The bed was comfortable but we did not sleep well because of the traffic on the main road outside. An attempt had been made to remedy this with the fixture of some architecturaly, very inappropriate, flush modern window shutters.
The cooked breakfast was fine although there was a limited range of sugary cereals and those mean mini-pots of thin marmalade. Home made bread did not compensate for having to get up to make one's own toast.
Overall this B&B is good but not fully deserving of the glowing accolades recorded here.
