Finding we needed a 3rd night in the Surrey area after booking 2 nights at a Travelodge and they didn't have a 3rd night for us, we booked about a week in advance at the Grouse Creek Motel.
As advertised, it was quiet. With tax the one queen room was $75. The bathroom was acceptable though my traveling companion has been trained by MerryMaids and said the bathroom "wasn't MerryMaids clean".
The only mirror was in the bathroom, nothing on any of the walls and only one bedside table. There was no combined heat/cool unit, instead there was a baseboard heater and an ancient plug in only (i.e. no controls) air conditioner. It was a smoke free room, but 5 seconds of using the air conditioner (so we would have white noise) filled the room with stale smoke--obviously from filters that hadn't been cleaned in years or the unit had previously been used in a smoking unit.
The bedspread had a burn hole in it.
The carpeting was filthy. Obviously vacuumed, but quite dirty. I am not a neat-freak, yet I felt compelled to not go barefoot in the room. Wore socks the entire time.
Photos attached. The stain on the carpet was suspicious and since the room had a faint urine smell I bent to sniff--had it been urine we would have requested a different room. This was coffee that had never been cleaned up. The path from the door into the room was also very ground-in dirty.
All in all, it was reminiscent of a 3rd world country lodging (desk clerks were of mid-Asian background)...and my companion agreed...she's lived in one of the 'stan countries for 20 years.
Photos do show our stuff around the room, but you can still get an idea of the dirty carpeting and the bare room.
