“Great stay on Canada Day, eh!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2009

We had never stayed in this hotel and were quite pleased with our overall experience. The check-in process was a little cumbersome and the 4pm check-in was a bit frustrating after a long day's drive. We had one of the "themed" rooms with a great decor befitting a beachside cottage. The room over-looked the lake and marina and loved sitting out on the balcony people-watching and boat-watching. The 4 poster bed provided a wonderful night's sleep and the train that other posters mentioned was not heard whatsoever. We had dinner at the restaurant that was a splendid Bar B Q buffet. Everything from steak to fish to chicken to ribs and every salad imaginable...a great feast, which we were then able to walk off down the boardwalk of the lake. The location is central to a lot of activiites and within walking distance of a grocery store, liquor store and the waterfront park where we visited the beach on a sunny Canada Day. That night we watched the fireworks as the country celebrated Canada Day. I hadn't been to Nelson in over 40 years and we enjoyed the entire experience! We would definitely recommend this hotel for it's proximity, view of the lake and the food in the restaurant.

“Good base for exploring the Kootenays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2009

Nothing special about the hotel but fine as a place to base yourself whilst touring the area. Restaurant good for breakfast or dinner with nice lakeside terrace. Room large and comfortable.

“Nice view, expensive and extra charges of $5 each for using fitness facilities”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2009

Stayed 2 days in August, first time at this hotel. Had a great view of the marina. The swimming pool was dark and murky, the hotel wanted $5 extra per registered guest to use the gym, just a locked room full of equipment with no trainer on site.! It is quite far from the main part of town, about 1 km walk up the hill but only a block from WalMart. I would stay at the Best Western right on Baker Street next time which included a continental breakfast, much better value for shareholders. I am off for a second walk along along the beautiful waterfront, to use the free outside gym at Lakeside park.

“a big disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

We got one of the last rooms in town here on a 3-day weekend, so we already felt like we were paying too much and receiving too little when we checked in. The room price was outrageous. The desk staff didn't know about the schedule of the town's electric trolley that stopped right outside the front door, nor were they helpful with other local information. The room was o.k. until we found that the toilet wouldn't draw, a problem which was never fixed despite our early report. The advertised guest computer had disappeared months before our arrival. The food was indifferent and the service was slow. Other parts of the town were nice, though.

“4.5 diamond rating is too much”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

I am tired of places that have no quams of charging high rates and easily accepting your payment for little or NO service, this place is one of them to the highest degrees.
Their "Prestige Suites" are standard at best, with dubious stains and cigarette butt burns in blankets.Very basic rooms for the rate of nearly $300.00 per night, no concierge, no help with bags, no service. The restaurant is a fiasco with cafeteria food at best.. (thick hairs in cold food)This staff should visit some real resorts and hotels that earn and deserve their ratings, this little town hotel has a lot of work to do to live up their "diamond" status, I say a 3 star at best, with five star rates.Go stay somewhere else!
A royal rip off!
