This was our first stay in Quebec and loved the city but found the hotel to be a little lacking. They had just rehabbed the entire building and maybe it was some of those issues that were not yet fixed but found the AC to be incredibly noise also no grates on the vents. The room felt old but just with a quick refresh to it. The shower broke while we were there and it took the plumber about an hour to get to us. The hotel itself was huge and had an enormous amount of people in it so everything seemed to have a line. The restaurants were generally incredibly crowded. It is a historic hotel well worth seeing in a good location and the staff was fairly pleasant but I would try to stay at a nicer boutique somewhere nearby if coming back.

Room tip: Don't look out over the front square there are often street performances late into the night a room with less of a view will probably be quieter.

Dear JamesK_travels,
Thank you for this feedback regarding your stay. We are glad you enjoyed your overall experience although I was disappointed to read about the issues with your AC and shower. The Chateau provides a boutique style experience with its Fairmont Gold product and I believe this would be a great option to choose on your next visit.
Sincerely,

We stayed here for our last night in Quebec City. The service we received was very good. This was the nicest hotel we had ever stayed in and were a bit nervous that we would feel out of place but that wasn't the case. We stayed in a renovated room on the 4th floor; our view was overlooking the boardwalk and river. Very pretty at night. I loved that the windows opened and that there was a window in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The only thing we didn't like, and this is minor, was that the bathroom doors folded in and this left a small gap in between them that took away some privacy. Not a big deal for us but if you were staying with friends this may be more uncomfortable. The hotel is a piece a history and the reason why we wanted to stay here; we were happy we did.

Room tip: We ended up with a double room (we checked in early and our king room wasn't ready yet). We were very happy with this as our room was quite large as a result. Hotel was very quiet, no noise from street on the 4th floor.

Le Chateau Fontenac is a beautiful property and truly majestic. Hotel staff are friendly and very helpful. Our room was clean and well appointed. However when showering with soap in my eyes the water completely stopped running for several minutes. I managed to wipe off and called the front desk. Someone came up right away but the water came back on before they got there! Everything was deemed ok and off they went. My wife then got in the shower and once again the water stopped! I felt like we were in a Three Stooges show.
Otherwise we had a wonderful stay. They need to fix the water problem

I am consistently disappointed by Fairmont Hotels. They simply do not deliver the goods. Over priced, old rooms with average decor. Our view from the window was a torn tarp and plywood (construction zone) and the room itself was as big as a shoe box. The "view" really put me over the edge and I asked for another room. Bellman didn't deliver our luggage for over 1 1/2 hours and that was only because we called to remind them.Their locations are fantastic and buildings grand, but inside the experience is average. The conference food we had at the Frontenac was dreadful. I have never seen people turn away the servers at a cocktail reception because the food was that unappealing. Other conference meals were just average--nothing to remember. I will not return to this property.
