I had the good fortune to stay at McVicar Manor twice a week, for a period of four months. I had never stayed at a B&B for business before, so the idea made me a little nervous at first. I didn't need to be... Dorthy and Tom run a delightful operation and are the greatest hosts! I felt at ease right away. They provide excellent, friendly service without hovering over their guests. This industrious couple love each other and truly love their home. It is obvious that they very much enjoy sharing their little piece of heaven.
The Manor is a gorgeous, sprawling, old heritage home, close to everything a traveller might need. The rooms are luxurious with a view of the grounds and creek. Even though the Manor is huge, every nook and cranny is inviting and warm. You will find all kinds of spaces to choose from (indoors or outdoors), to work peacefully, chat with companions, or simply chill out with a book and a glass of complimentary wine or port. Check out the artwork all over the house. The pieces are treasures to Tom and Dorthy with a story behind most. Tom's own beautiful photography work is throughout the Manor.
I've had a total of 16 visits to the Manor over the last few months, and I don't think I've had the same breakfast twice! I don't know how Dorthy does it, but she serves a new and absolutely delicious meal every morning. Tom joins her in the mornings to greet guests and keep coffee/conversation flowing. It's a wonderful way to start the day!
There really is nowhere better. I will miss my time there and feel grateful for the memories I take away from my time in Thunder Bay at McVicar Manor.
