“noisy so bring ear plugs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

I stayed here one night during a quick trip to Thunder Bay. Check in went quickly. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and the flat screen TV worked well. The room and bathroom were large and roomy. The continental breakfast was adequate.

The biggest problem I had was the noise. This was mostly from the busy street and the air traffic due to the nearby airport. The windows seem to funnel and amplify the noise.
As well, the air conditioner sounded like a train. There was a low rumbling sound that would come and go all night. I think this was an air conditioner in a nearby guest room. I was just getting to sleep when, in an adjacent room, the clock radio alarm went off about 3 am. They silenced it right away but the damage was done.

“Terrible Stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

Front desk attendant more into Internet than guest arrival; I had to speak to her first. She was quite unhelpful as to parks for my dogs; I could hear the plumbing -- water on and off -- in other rooms; hotel was in the flight path of Thunder Bay airport! High-speed internet was low-speed the night I was there!

“7;30 am automatic wake up call”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

The hotel is very avg. It was worn. It was bad value for money! At half seven in the morning, i nearly fell out of the bed with the noise of the BIG plane as it sounded like it landed in the room alongside us! But apart from that it had i good choice of breakfast.also the carpark is car safe!

“Average stay. Convenient Location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel twice with the 1st at the end of July on our way up to northern Ontario and once again on our way back to Alberta. We had rooms on the main floor each time with the room on the back side the 1st time and on the front side of the hotel on the 2nd time. By far, we preferred the room on the front side of the hote as you could park your vehicle directly outside the room door. This made it easy to move our luggage from the car to the room and vice versa. For the room on the backside of the hotel, parking is located alongside the back fence. There is some green space along the back fence and right next door at the Mr. Lube for you to take your dog and let them do their business.

The rooms were average. For the first room on the backside we had 2 beds which were beyond firm. For the 2nd room on the front side, we had a king size bed which again was pretty firm but a bit softer. While I like firm mattresses, this was a tad on the extreme side, at least for us. The rooms had LCD TV's and a mini fridge. For whatever reasons, the mini fridges temperatures were set to the lowest setting. I had to turn it up in order to keep our drinks nice and cool for the next morning for the continuing road trip. There are two entrances to the room, one from the exterior and the other from the interior hallway. The interior doors are not sealed well as you could see light come into the room from the top, one side and the bottom in the evening. This also allowed ambient noise from the hall into the room when people would talk or walk by.

The breakfast room is located on the 3rd floor and is basic with the waffle machine, a selection of bagels, toast and apples/oranges. They served pre-cooked hard boiled eggs.

There are computers w/ free internet access at the lobby area for hotel guests and I found it pretty convenient.

While the hotel was okay, the staff were very nice and polite. Both my wife and I agreed that if we're in Thunder Bay again, we'd look for another pet friendly hotel first before considering this hotel because of the beds alone.

Room Tip: Get a room on the front side of the hotel.

“Clean, comfortable, unexciting”

Place was clean, comfortable and unexciting. Newer fixtures in room and flat panel TV's, breakfast was good. Hotel is right by airport so expect to hear the odd jet engine.
