“Don't Waste your time and money on this "resort"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

Lesson learned - never travel again without checking Trip Advisor first!

As an Event Planner with 12+ years in the hospitality industry, I don’t think I have ever stayed in worse accommodations or been treated with such disrespect.

I was excited to have a well-deserved week off and had booked three nights in a cottage, at the last minute. When I arrived the gentleman in the Office was upset that I didn't leave my Credit Card upon booking, I tried to explain that I was not asked for the number and if I was, I would have happily given it to them, but he just became more furious telling me they required a Credit Card number to confirm the reservation, and called someone else in to the office. Oddly enough, even without my Credit Card, they still held a cottage for me and had all the paper work ready. Not the best first impression!
When I walked in to my cottage, to say I was di sappointed is an understatement. The pictures on the web site don't reflect the true state of the cottages at all. But, I decided to make the best of the situation, and although their web site indicates "last minute discounts", I paid full price as no discount was offered, and was required to pay for the full three nights in advance, as well as a $300.00 security deposit.
I started to unpack, and quickly realized the dishes were filthy, the walls were worse, there wasn't a coffee maker as the web site indicated and the cottage just felt dirty.
Luckily there is a Wal-Mart 10 minutes away and I was able to buy a coffee maker and cleaning supplies.
I really can’t say I was able to relax as I was so disappointed with everything – from the state of the cottage to the “beach” to the “view from the deck”.
Sadly, on the second day of my stay, I received an urgent call and had to leave due to a family emergency. The owners have no compassion, as I was still required to pay the full three nights, as “that is their policy”.
I would not recommend this "resort" to anyone, the water pressure is non-existent, the cottages are not kept up, and it is very very overpriced compared to other cottages I have rented.
My pictures tell the true story and have not been altered at all!

As the owner of Lancaster Resort, I will not dispute personal opinions provided by travelers but will respond to inaccuracies to better inform potential vacationers. As the owner, I was not given the opportunity to address the issue of this client needing to leave because of an emergency. In her rush to leave the resort, she tossed me the key while running to her car. There was no discussion on our policies or any other issues. There were some inaccuracies in this review. Client was offered and received a last minute discount. Coffee making promised on website was in the cupboard in the cottage.

As the owner of Lancaster Resort, I will not dispute personal opinions provided by travelers but will respond to inaccuracies to better inform potential vacationers. Our website clearly states that we are located on the weedy Chemong Lake and that swimming is done in our 80 degree heated salt water pool. As well, I do inform vacationers on the phone about it. All activities listed on our website are available to use and enjoy. As well, we provide information about nearby attractions to our guests.

“Pleasant & Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2009

My stay was pleasant and relaxing.

I am surprised by some negative comments about this resort placed by others. If they were expecting Hotel quality facilities perhaps they should have gone to a hotel.

The cottages were simply nice and clean and provided cottage atmosphere. The grounds were well maintained and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I especially enjoyed the heated pool. Good size and the water quality was excellent. My children enjoyed wading in the water at the beach and especially since there was a large quantity of new and clean sand. There were some weeds in the water as other travellers mentioned but this was not a negative. Actually, this made the bass fishing great..

I recommend this location for a relaxing and fun filled family time.

“Website is decieving”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2009

The photos and info on the website are very misrepresented. We were very disappointed when we drove up as this was not what the website depicted. The lake is full of weeds. There was some sand at the beach area but it is unswimable d/t the weeds. The pool area is nice. If I had showed up with young kids and nice weather I would have left. We thought we would combine a stay to visit Trent U and relax. The weather wasn't good so we did lots of shopping.

The cottage was clean but needed many minor repairs that I also would consider safety hazards as mentioned above...exposed wires. There was no bathroom curtain on the window, the bathtub was in bad need of caulking. The frying pan was unusable ( I saw the neighbor taking his to be changed) The nice looking docks in the pictures at the cottage are usable and unsafe.

We heard the couple next door say the same thing about how the pictures on the website were very misleading. The cottage area is nice with trees , a firepit at the cottage and nice lake view. They did trim the long weeds at the waters edge on the last day there.

We made the best of it but my teenage daughters hated it. I should have taken more photos to post.

“HORRIBLE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2008

Our recent trip to Lancaster Resort was nothing short of disastrous!
Since I was travelling alone with 2 young children (4 & 5 yrs), and a puppy, I wanted to make certain that the resort property would be appropriate. I called and spoke to the owner directly. She told me that the beach/swimming area would be great for the kids and puppy. She explained that the puppy could not play on the beach but there was a large grassy area right next to it that I could sit and attend to the children simultaneously. I thought that sounded perfect and gave her a $100 deposit to hold the cottage for us.
When we first arrived, the children were hungry. I preheated the oven to put a pizza in to cook. The cottage filled with smoke and the smoke detector went off. The kids were terrified! There were exposed wires running on the wall, beside the bed. This was very concerning to me and having the kids sleep in that room was not an option.
We went to the beach to play and found the lake filled with weeds, lilly pads and algae. There was no way to swim in the water. In addition, there was nowhere to sit, no chairs and the grasswas literally a swamp! We were disappointed to see the raft and slide that are promoted on the website beached and the raft was actually upside down. This was not the beach/lake vacation experience that was promised. Still, not willing to give up, we tried the pool. The water was not heated and the kids refused to swim.
At this point, there was no reason to stay. I returned to the office and advised the staff that we wanted to leave. I expected my money (I paid the balance in cash) returned to me immediately. We had only been there 1.5 hours. After a long and tedious argument, with my children present, she returned my money. She kept the $100 deposit!
This property, in my opinion was completely misrepresented on their website, as well as during our phone call.
Upon our return, I contacted the owner of the resort and explained how disappointed we were. I asked her to accept responsibilty for this horrible misrepresentation of her property. and refund my $100 deposit. Her response was......."no refunds for early departures".

As the owner of Lancaster Resort, I will not dispute personal opinions provided by travelers but will respond to inaccuracies to better inform potential vacationers. In this review the guest complains about the swimming in the beach area. When I spoke with this guest on the phone before her stay, I explained that the water at the lake was ok for wading in but that all our swimming is done in the pool. Our website clearly states that we are located on the weedy Chemong Lake and that swimming is done in our pool. The issue regarding the smoke detector going off – Working smoke detectors should not be classified as a negative comment. Exposed wires - Closed hydro boxes are located inside the cottages but there are no exposed wires. We do have a t.v. cable wire coming in through the wall. Issue about chairs and grass area – Chairs were stacked and located right beside the beach as it was raining when she arrived. This is the cause for the wet grass. Issue regarding pool temperature – Our pool is heated at 80 degrees all summer and is monitored every two hours while the pool is open. As the summer cottage rentals are our business, we clearly state that we do not give refunds for early departures or if people decide they don’t like it. We do turn people away each week of the summer because we are booked thus depending on the vacationers to commit to their booking. In this case, we felt that this lady was truly unhappy so we generously refunded her money feeling completely justified in keeping the deposit.
