“Value for money, great for Toronto Centre for the Arts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This was a basic 3.5-4 start hotel. It was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and we would stay here again if we were planning to see a show at the Arts Centre again. Don't stay if you are looking for super-luxury, but for the price it was worth it and we liked the king-sized bed. The restaurant, Trio, was a gem in the neighborhood. We hadn't expected much because it's a hotel restaurant and it was empty when we arrived. But the food was amazing! We'd definitely eat there again.

“Disappointed”

Spent a couple of nights there with my husband and 2 children. The rooms need refreshing. The water temperature of the pool was too cold, so was the temperature overall sitting on the pool area. Some friends came and had brunch with us at the hotel restaurant. The waiter put the bills on the table and kept on coming to check if we had paid, kind of pushing us out of the restaurant. We were talking and taking our time. We found him very rude. I have never experienced this before anywhere in a restaurant. He even started moving the plastic on which the bills were to make a point that he wanted us to pay him right away!
It was not possible to lock the door from inside our hotel room as the lock was broken. This feature is very important with young children to ensure they don't go outside the room, and it feels safer at night too, but unfortunately it was broken on our door.
When we checked out of the hotel, I realized after leaving that they had charged us 25$ per night worth of mini-bar when we didn't use anything from the mini-bar. It was not possible to lock the door of the mini-bar and my son kept on opening it to take candies out so we had to hide them from him but always put them back when leaving the room, not necessarily at the exact same place. I had to call 3 times and talk to different people to have the 50$ removed from my bill, so ensure you're not being charge for the mini-bar if you don't use it! Novotel will not see us back to their hotels!

Thanks for posting a review, disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us.
Just wanted to emphasise how important guest security is. Afew years ago we had to remove the additional deadbolt, I believe because of local fire regulations, however there is an optional deadbolt built into the main door lock, which does not allow anyone access. Unfortunately in today's world security has become our No 1 concern for our guests.
The minibars are automated and can understand the frustration when children move items around, however the front desk team are very understanding and when highlighted will adjust the invoice.
I hope you will try us again in the future,
Regards, Michael.

Many thanks for your positive review, I'm going to follow up about the dry air in the bedroom. I'll ask the team to check the humidifiers. It is the first time I have had a comment about dry air so maybe there is a tech problem.... I'll sort it.
Thanks again, Regards, Michael.

“Not a Business Address”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Here on business for a week, and found highs and deep lows in this supposed high-end line. The king bed left me dead to the world, the room heat was generally controllable, the housekeeping staff leaves the room sterling. But:
—The front desk staff was no-star accommodating. Room refrigerators in the house? No. Humidifiers for extremely dry room air? No. Directions how to get into the pool? No. What exactly, then, does the hotel provide aside from beds and showers?
— One-pot / four-cup coffee service in the room, with two sugar packets and two packets of non-dairy creamer. Per day. I asked the housekeeper on Monday for extra — and got no more after that.
— Spotty, slow Internet.
— No guides at all to highlight dinner choices, entertainment, other services nearby. The immediate area is populated by a couple of far-overpriced restaurants and others of sketchy appearance. The supermarket across Yonge Street can provide staples. One must travel quite some distance, it was said, to buy wine and liquor by the bottle.
— No fault of the hotel, but it sits in a building with rarely working elevators to the parking levels.
Much of this perhaps owes to the hotel's being the lone option in a main street-ish area of a few commercial buildings and mostly condominium towers. I'll seek another next trip.

Oops, clearly we let ourselves down, and obviouslky did not talk to you... simply because there is so much to see and do in the area... including a vast array of restaurants within a block of the hotel, a supermarket and LCBO store that can be reached without having to venture outside and a great theatre within 5 minutes walk... clearly we did not do our job very well.
Plus very disappointed to hear about the wifi... we've just upgraded to fibre... super fast!! So I'll look into that.
Thanks for taking the time to post a review,
Regards, Michael.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

excellent from start to finish ... courtesy, cleanliness, convenience all tops ... would stay there gain anytime again. perhaps they could put night chains on room doors, but overall security was good, with controlled elevator access. did not visit restaurant or other amenities, but room service menu was vairied and service prompt..

Many thanks for mentioning Marihan, a great team member, great attitude and, yes, a great smile. We've all worked hard in Trio to create a friendly and professional restaurant that offers great food and service. Thanks for recognising.
