There are so many things to do when you are at Niagara Falls. From the casinos to the entertainment strip, to other sight-seeing activities - the one of the most memorable one would be on the jet boat.
Before you can board the jet boat, you need to board a bus, which will ferry you about 20 - 30 mins out close to the Niagara river. There are changing rooms and lockers for you to change out of and keep your belongings. You will also be required to sign a waiver, register, don your life-vest and shoes, and you are set!
The kids and I had the "good" fortune of taking the open-air boat. It was enjoyable calm down river ride. You get to see up close the 2 hydro-power plants - one each on the Canadian and US sides. Then the thrill starts!!! You can hear the roar of the 4-engine jet boat come to life as it starts to move up-river. As the boat speeds up, you can feel the power under you, and when it hits the water, that's where your heart will literally jump ... simply exhilarating! The excitement continues ...
Then the jet boat will do a couple of 180-degree turns, and then "runs" down the rapids! Wow! This was awesome!! Be prepared to get wet ... i mean, drenched!! My advice is don't even try to sneak you camera or anything on-board, better to keep the dry on land. In case you did, there is a small pouch in front of you that you can keep it, but trust me, with your two hands firmly holding the rail-bar, you will not have a free hand to use those devices!
The jet boat will do a couple of runs before it gets close the whirlpool. You can literally see the water going round and round and being sucked into at the middle. Of course, the boat / operator is not permitted by law to go closer as it is dangerous. If you are fortunate, you will also be able to see another attraction hanging overhead - the Aerocar. Basically a cable car that takes you over the Whirlpool. My personal take, the jet boat is more worth it compared to the Aerocar.
After this, the boat will make another run down river, passes through the rapids, and you get another round of dunking before you get safely back to shore!! At the gift shop, you will be able to pick up some souvenirs like T-shirts, etc. You can also order your photos or a digital recording of your ride. My recommendation is if you are going to buy the digital recording, don't buy the pictures because it is included in the thumb-drive.
Alternatively, if you want to enjoy the thrill but not get wet, they do have the covered crafts, but i understand that it can get pretty warm in there!!
Overall, i give it a 2 thumbs-up for this ride of a life-time!
