I spend about sixty (!) nights a year in Toronto airport hotels for work related reasons. Over the past year I've stayed at the various Marriott and Hilton brand hotels in the area. All of them have their pros and cons. During the winter months I stay at this Fairfield Inn, the Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden Inn, as those are in walking distance to my office.
The lobby of this hotel is inviting and the staff efficient and friendly. The rooms are two-star motel style with the usual amenities, lower end mattress, old-school TV set, coffeemaker, window unit airconditioner/heater. The cleanliness of the rooms leaves a lot to be desired though. Housekeeping does a quick surface cleaning only. Whenever I check into a hotel the first thing I do is lift the bedding and the mattress to perform the bedbug check. Big mistake. No bedbugs, but years of hair, dust, filth, fingernails you name it under the mattress. The bedskirts clearly are not cleaned regularly, the nightstands never moved to clean behind them. Dusty condom wrapper behind the nightstand. Tons of air freshener sitting in the carpet and wallpaper. Don't stay here if you have allergies.
The gym is small but functional. The airport shuttle is on request only. You have to call from the airport.
Do not eat at their restaurant. The "Chicken Stir Fry" clearly came from frozen and was exact same quality and quantity as the lean cuisine Chicken Stir Fry. I was under the impression they just took a $2.99 convenience meal, put it in the microwave, arrange it on a plate and charge you $14 for it. Terrible.
Room Tip: Bring some ducktape for the curtains. The exterior floodlights illuminate all rooms at night.
