We had no real complaints. Our welcome was subdued but friendly. The morning front desk clerk was one of the friendliest people I've ever encountered and a real credit to Marriott. We share the same concerns with recent reviewers about slipping standards. The hotel was definitely showing wear and tear. The breakfast was excellent and a great value, but the evening light meal--a cream-based vegetable soup--when we arrived was inedible, which is being extremely charitable. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were very quiet. We did notice the extremely strong food smells in the corridors as well, though they did not invade our room as other reviewers have noted. We chose to stay at Homewood Suites on our return trip through Toronto on the way home and it pains me to say it as a loyal Residence Inn customer but I think we may have to switch allegiances. Homewood was cheaper by almost 20 percent (using our AAA discount) and had far superior food. The hotel was not as quiet, which we attributed to its location by a busy street, but was in much better repair.
