One of the the cheapest "chain" hotels around, we stayed here because we wanted to stay in this area as were we seeing a play a couple of bucks away. The room was sparse and basic, perfect for just a nights stay. We walked up the block to dine at Shakespeares Restaurant and then caught a play at the Theatre Auarius 3 blocks away. The hotel was in a great location, close to everything we wanted, but i certainly would not wonder the streets by myself at night, as we ran into a few "characters" on our way back.
The hotel was busy with some sort of sports team checking in as we were. I was filled with dread, oh no, a noisy hotel filled with drucken teenaged boys...grrrrreat. Turns out they stayed upstairs and we didn't hear a peep out of them. Only two things kept me up at night, the traffic outside my window (staying RIGHT on Main St has its drawbacks) and the old Asian man that was staying in the nieghbouring room. He was drunkingly trying to talk his girl into staying the night, she just wanted her money and to leave...sigh...By 3am and the 3rd firetruck blazing by, I'd given up. I tried to call Front Desk, 3 times over the next hour (YES, THREE FREAKING TIMES), without an answer. Finally I kicked my husband out of bed, he had to get dressed and walk down to Front Desk. But this time, the Girl next door finally got her money and she went home but my Husband was able to get a fan to try to drown out the traffic noise, we cranked the A/C and finally I could get some rest!
The breakfast buffet the next morning was...standard. Fountain OJ & apple juice, coffee, tea, store bought pastries-croissants bagels and muffins, cereals, apples and bananas. We did enjoy the waffle maker for fresh hot waffles but there was a long wait since there was only one maker for everybody. Would have loved some yogurt and fruit salad...
The room was very clean and not overly used or tired which was great. It was well kept and everything was in working order.
The staff at check in were okay, not overly friendly or welcoming at all, but not rude. Just "do you have reservations? Your room number is blah blah blah and the breakfast is at 6am, your room is to the right". Wow, thanks. The midnight front desk guys were also smoking right in front of the door, like RIGHT under the awning, so I had to walk out into their smoke...ick...
An odd thing, we had to "sign-out" our remote controls for the TV and promise to pay $25 if we didn't bring them back. Yup, they had our room number on them and everything! Really?
And we also found it odd that there was no "pay-per-view" movie option. Its kind of a tradition to sit back and relax and watch a movie in a hotel. Without this option we were stuck watching crappy Friday night TV...double ick...
So overall, a clean basic hotel, nothing special but then again, nothing scary. So I would recommend for a quick overnight, somewhere to rest your head, but not to enjoy per se.
Room Tip: ask for a room away from the street. The noise is LOUD, its a major road in hamilton, never mind sin...
