“What a gem of a surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I was not expecting much as I had read a number of reviews but as it was in the dead of winter, I must have lucked out. I was given 'the best room in the house' according to the desk agent. The price was right too. VERY reasonable. He said I might want a long bath. Unknowingly I said, "Oh I just do showers." It wasn't until I went up the (very old and a bit scary elevator) and into my room that I realized why he said that. Not only was the room huge - it had one of the largest king sized beds I have ever seen and there was still lots of room around it - but the bathroom was divine! It had a flat screen TV (viewable from the bath and the sink), a separate room for the toilet and another glass-walled in separate room for the shower and the bathtub. When I saw the size of the 3' high and almost the same wide tub and all the whirlpool jets I understood what he meant. And after a long drive, it was heavenly. The whirlpool jets were the most powerful ones I've experienced outside of an actual whirlpool/jacuzzi. It was amazing. I put the TV on and laid back and was gently pummeled for a good half hour at least. Really did the trick.
After a very restful night on a really good, solid bed/mattress, I went into the 'shower room' again this time to have a shower. It too was amazing.... I had the upper frontal shower had AND a huge raindrop shower head above. Plus there was a nice big wooden bench to sit on.
This was really an excellent way to wind down my vacation and get ready for the last leg of my trip. Excellent room. Better than excellent bathroom.
I can't remember the room number but it was on the 2nd floor almost directly above the front desk.

Room Tip: Ask for the room directly above the front desk.

“Major renos but hard towels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

The Coast Penticton is undergoing major renovations and plans an addition. I stayed in a renovated room and they have on the whole done a very good job. The bathroom is enormous and includes a bath/shower enclosure you could have a party in. The windows open, a big plus for me. The bed was comfortable and the work area adequate. I have only two complaints - the towels are hard and the chair you use at the desk does not move up or down (it is not a desk chair - just an ordinary chair). As an average height woman I had to put a cushion on the chair. Back to the towels -= they are large and new, but very hard. I recently stayed at the Coast Campbell River and they provide large towels too (in the premium rooms) only there they are soft.

One other potential drawback - the adjacent restaurant closes at 3. However there are other restaurants within walking distance.

Thank you for your review. It sounds like you stayed in one of our popular Superior Rooms - the bathrooms with the overhead rain shower and jetted tub certainly makes this a guest favourite. I am sorry the towels were a little on the hard side. We get an enormous amount of guest feedback with different opinions - some say towels aren't hard enough, some, like yourself, prefer a more plush-type towel. We will continue to monitor important guest feedback such as yours and certainly make the changes necessary. In the meantime, thank you for your business and let us know when making your next reservation that you would prefer softer towels...I'm sure we can locate some for you!

“Price improves rating for this hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Needed an affordable place to stay and usually find the Coast Hotel chain is a good option. This hotel still needs some work - they have expansion plans in place which will improve the hotel considerably. But if you need something with an affordable rate then the hotel will do. First the good stuff - my room was quiet, clean and staff was great (Jackie at the front desk will do whatever you need to help you out). Now the rest - was told to ask for a jacuzzi room next time (they only have 8 of those rooms and apparently they're better), Do not expect to be staying in a high end hotel because this is not but if, and only if, you get a good rate I can recommend this hotel. The restaurant in the hotel was not great - only had breakfast once and it did not impress me to return. There is a nice bar/restaurant across the street in the Sandman Hotel (Bar One) and Denny's is located there as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a jacuzzi room

Thank you for your review. We certainly make sure we are priced in-line to similar hotels around us...providing a very good product with excellent value is important to us. Our Superior Rooms are definitely the most popular with the jetted tubs and the overhead rain showers - worth the extra couple of dollars as they have been highlighted as some of the best renovated rooms in the Okanagan. Thank you - we look forward to having you back!

“Love this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

This was our third stay at this hotel in the last few years. The last two stays we got one of the really nice big rooms, this time we were given a very small room with doors to the outside. We still had a great stay, but it definitely didn't have the same feel to it. Since we were only staying one night this wasn't a big deal. If we were to stay longer than one night I wouldn't want the small room. It was very cramped and I don't really like having the door to my room on the outside of the hotel. Plus there was a second outside door on the back of the room that led out to a parking lot/alley area and was a bit creepy. However, for the price we paid it was an excellent deal.

The staff were great, like they've always been. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The location is great. We will stay here again!

Thank you for your review! Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay....being built in the 1970's, our hotel is uniquely shaped with different styles of rooms. Hint for next stay if you book a Comfort Room...request for one on the second or third floor. Also - all our Superior Rooms and Premium Suites are also on the 2nd and 3rd floors! Look forward to having you back!

“Clean, quiet, well suited”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Came to Penticton area for a wine tour. Hotel was well priced, as we were only looking for a bed. Good central location, lots of restaurants close by (ie. walk across street). Free parking and wifi is always nice, as many hotels overcharge for this.

If you are looking for luxurious stay with all the amenities this is probably not your place, but if you are looking for a clean quiet comfortable room, then this is a great option.
