As part of our Thomas Cook tour we stayed at the Coast Canadian Inn in Kamloops. Though the rooms were clean and pleasant enough, as you would normally expect from this type of hotel, the resturant experience was something else. As we arrived on Thanksgiving Day, our opportunities to dine out were very limited, therefore we opted to use the hotel's resturant, choosing sirloin steak with jacket potatoes and local vegetables. The steak was small, but edible, the potatoe was hard and the local egetables comprised of a single corn on the cobb resting on my plate. We felt extremely sorry for the single waitress on duty who explained that due to ongoing labour disputes, staffing was at minimum levels, witgh just the one chef on duty. Breakfast the following morning brought some trepidation as we had an early start arranged. We were not to be disappointed as again only two staff were on duty who could not cook or serve any hot dishes as advertised, instead, we had to manage from hastily arranged and served continental eats, such as toast and cerals. Again we felt sorry for the staff, one who only come in that day as a favour to assist and help out her other colleague. Our protests and sighs of disappointment alerted members of the management who immediately offered us the breakfast elements free of charge. In reality they could have done nothing more, they were already deeply embarrassed and wounded from the previous evening. We were told that the hotel was about to undergo extensive refurbishment in the coming months, though no date had been set aside, it did explain and answer some of the
staff's grievances.
