“Good Value for money”

Fabulous location, wood burning fireplace, clean and maintained. Plenty of mule deer roaming the grounds. Not the latest technology for everything, but I'd return.

“Outdated for price.”

My family chose to stay here because the hotel we usually stay out there (which is across the street) had no vacancies. The cost was lower but so was the quality. The TV's appeared to be from the early 90's (one of them had knobs to control picture quality, etc) The TV in the main room was barely functional and seemed to be on it's last leg. There was a sharp end of a nail protruding from one of the walls in the bedroom which I was lucky enough to find with my palm (just a scratch but still annoying). The drain in the bathtub failed to drain adequately so by the end of a shower you were ankle deep in water. The couch was very old looking and looked a little scorched as if someone had pulled it too close to the fire place. They charged for fire wood so we skipped on that (though it would have been nice to enjoy a fire). The walls were thin and neighbors could be heard easily (especially at 2 in the morning, luckily they have quiet hours...ha.) Other then the these things it was okay. Beds were fairly stiff hotel beds, the towels were standard rough hotel towels, all in all what you would expect from a chain motel. I suggest the place across the street. It's a little more price-wise but well worth the money, especially if you have children. Much nicer rooms, a huge indoor play area for kids, free firewood, and just overall better quality.

“Took $300 from me (double damage)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

First i wanna stat that the rooms were cold (especially the loft area)and the pictures do not show what it truely looks like. they have a very old look to them and have not been updated for a while. The hot tub/suana they keep at a very low tempature because i assume it doesnt get used very often. I asked them right after if they could turn up the tempature. i tryed it the next day and the tempature was still very low. The "hot" tub was just a warm bath type tempature.

Secondly, when i checked in they took my Visa for $150 damage deposit. I accidentally spilled Sweet & Sour sauce on the couch while trying to walk around the table. i take full responsiblity for my mistake and addmitted it to the manager. When i got home i noticed a charge of $300 on my Visa. I called the manager to question him, he stated it was due to the couch situation. I was expecting to lose my $150 damage deposit but got charged double. I even asked him how he can just charge my Visa above the "pre-debited" damage amount, he stated; "i can charge your Visa whatever i want".

His claim was the couch was $600 brand new so he charged me half of the original price. I tried to explain to him the couch was extremly old and in very rough shape and i should be based on the possible resale price.

I completly admitted to my mistake and owned up to it. I understand that does not solve the problem but his statement "i can charge your Visa whatever i want" did not set right with me. As well as basing his price of the original price and did not take into account the wear and tear.

the comments at the start were not biased based on the damage deposit situation. With that situation set aside i did not like my stay at this "resort" for several reasons.

Hi Kody,
Thanks for writing the review. I am a little confused as our phone conversation was completely different from what you have stated here. I feel I need to clarify a few points.
One – You trashed your room to a point where it was unsellable for 72 hours.
Two – You did not “spill”, you poured sweet and sour sauce / syrup all over the couch.
Three – You did not take responsibility / admit / own up for any of the damages and just left the property without checking out.
Four – When you called to discuss the charge for the damages, you raved about how many times you have come to our property over the years and hoped to come back.
Five – At no point did I say “I can charge your credit card whatever I want”. I informed you that a $150 pre-authorization on your credit card does not cover any and all damages to the room. As with most hotels, we use the credit card left on file at check in to recover any extraordinary financial losses should a guest decide to destroy our property.
Please be aware for your future travels that it is an industry standard to charge the guest the replacement value of items that they decide to maliciously destroy. The couch you decided to ruin was 8 months old. It was purchased (and now replaced) for $650. The sofa was in excellent shape until you decided in would be acceptable to pour a condiment all over it. Our charging $300 is extremely reasonable. For any guests that wonder why we require a credit card and photo i.d. for all our guests at check in, this is a perfect example.

“Banff´s best kept secret for the value offered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Our family has been celebrating Christmas in Banff for the past few years, this year we stayed at Tunnel Mountain Resort and were suprised with Banff´s best kept secret. Although it is a moderate property without luxuries we enjoyed the two jacuzzi tubs and pool. The staff is genuinely friendly and helpful, the two rooms that we had were sparkling clean and comfortably fit the 6 of us well. We have stayed at other hotels in Banff and Canmore that have kitchens as well (which is very convenient) but this kitchen and room were more practical (I loved the granite countertop too) and the price compared to the other places that we have stayed before is just unbeatable. The hotel is quiet and secluded and we all had a feel about really being in the mountains for real this time. The grandparents stayed at an excecutive suite that was very nice, even with a steam shower separated for the bathtub. New years eve was a liitle bit noisy but it was very well managed and completely expected on our end, overall I give this hotel an A+ because it combines the value and the rooms we need for our travelling needs.

“Perfect Chalet in Banff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Stayed here on a Contiki tour for 2 nights. There were 3 of us in the Chalet, one person had the bedroom on the first floor and another girl and I had the 2 beds upstairs.
This Chalet was very comfortable, it was modern, it had a veranda/balcony we could sit on and relax in the fresh air. Wifi was excellent and the kitchen was very handy.
We cooked dinner one night, it was ok but there wasn't enough equipment to make spaghetti, we only had one pot and had to cook the meat in it (no saucepan), then the pasta in it which was kind of hard. Maybe reception had extras I am not sure.
There was a supermarket on the main street where you can buy food, but it may pay to check what you have to cook with before buying just so you know what is easiest.
Overall, it was really pleasant here, the bus stop is right near the Chalets and takes you into town and back easily. I really enjoyed this accommodation, especially at night when we all just relaxed with some drinks and snacks and watched tv and surfed the net. It was really relaxing and I have recommended this place to others who are traveling here this year.
