“Second stay at Inns of Banff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I don't know why we like this hotel so much, for a ski weekend, it just seems to be our speed. Its clean. The price is right. 15 year old still gets to stay free! Its fun making our way around the different levels of the place, we find it hilarious that it gets confusing, but the signage is actually good if you pay attention! There's no fuss, and no muss, and its just a simply nice, casual, relaxing place to hang out, nothing formal or stressful. Who needs formal and fussy after a great workout day of skiing? We love the big outdoor hot tub, and its mountain view. We ate way too much at the attached (no need to go outside) sushi place (no affiliation, apparently) both times we've stayed, awesome sushi, but make a reservation early in the day.

Room Tip: We asked for a room close to the (one-price all you can eat) sushi restaurant so that we didn't...

“Roof top hot pool was the highlight...that's it”

We went here for a get away weekend - we've had much better experiences in Banff. We didn't expect 5 star for the price - we had a coupon for the weekend (glad for that!). We had a nice bottle of white wine and $25 credit to use at one of the restaurants.

Hotel is confusing to get around but we had our bearings near the end of our visit. Rooms are dated. Old carpet, half reno'd bathroom. The beds are old, you can tell by the stripes on the mattress and they threw a mattress topper over the old mattress that didn't even fit the mattress. There was a few inch ledge all around the mattress. Pillows were good.

We didnt have a good night sleep either night which is the least we expect. The heads of our bed were against the hallway wall so we could here EVERYTHING in the hallway. If you arent a skier getting up early in the morning you cant sleep in! You can hear talking, snow boots plodding down the hall, laughing. Very annoying. You can also hear people coming in at all hours.

We ate at pub downstairs, food was good and reasonable but be aware the Wildfire Grill upstairs has the same menu.

Didnt use the indoor hot tub but used the outdoor hot pools. The view is amazing. We went mid day hoping for no crowds but it was busy so not so fun.

Be aware that its a little jaunt to walk to downtown. In the summer no problem, winter a little much.

This hotel would be ok for a group that shares the cost of the room and isn't looking for anything too fancy and sleep is not a priority. If you get a good deal on it, you may be happy with it.

Room Tip: Ask to look at the room and see if your head is against a hallway. Then choose another room.

“Decent Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Me and my two children stayed here for just one night this past weekend. We just live in Calgary so thought it would be a nice night away to visit Banff and got a decent rate last minute.

Pretty much have the same comments as most guests, it is an older hotel so it is a little outdated. We stayed in the swiss village and the common areas did smell strong of fresh paint and there were some workers there- but undertandable as they are updating. The room was pleasent - typical hotel room. The TV's are small and very outdated, but we didn't mind that as we spent most of our time in the pools.

We swam at both the indoor pool and the outdoor whirlpool. The indoor pool was never busy, decent size pool, warm water so that was nice. Small hot tub as well. The kids loved it. The whirl pool was amazing. So hot and the kids loved it and the view is very nice. And it is large so lots of room. The staff member at the whirl pool was AMAZING he was sooo sweet and help me and the kids figure out best way out there and was talking to the kids- that guy needs a raise- he made us feel so welcome and he was telling me about his daugher... it was very nice.

Yes the hotel can be confussing, It says right on the hotel map :) but they also say just ask for directions and we did and had no trouble finding the roof top pool.

It is difficult to stay at swiss village when the swimming areas are in a different building so that walk between buildings wet and in the cold sucks! And the only other problem we had was with parking at swiss village- there was NONE. I had to go back in to the front desk and she said to just drive around and park anywhere.... not the best solution but we did find parking... it was a far walk back to swiss village however.

All and all decent price, decent hotel. And we had a good time. I would go back if the price was right!

Room Tip: If you are interested in swimming ask for a room in that main building so you dont have to go outsid...

Thank you for your comments. We do strive to provide a family environment at the hotel even on sell out weekends and I am so glad you and your children enjoyed your time with us. We like guests of all ages to enjoy using our outdoor pool facility and we do have friendly staff on duty at this area during peak periods. This helps us in our endeavours to maintain an environment suitable for all the family.

Overall we found this accomidation fantastic value for money. The staff were very helpfull, and the location is just perfect. Our room was clean and tidy, and every day we returned from the ski fields it had been cleaned well.

“maze leads to the rumpus room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Look its a great deal - but trying to find building B to go A and then to the rooftop hot pool without changing room to a corridor leading to a parking lot and then to what looks like a motel was interesting. The bar was like going to Little Jimmy's dads rumpus room bar with wood panelling from the 70's where you could mix cherry brandy with blue curacuao and Galliano.
I thought it was a pretty good deal. Appeared to be a lot of children running around screaming so pray you dont live next to a room with the little monsters because that is going to ruin any romance you want to have - screaming children in a hotel is sure way of preventing conception.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from families who are on a skiing trip. Prepare to beam back into your dad's wood...
