“Couldn't want for more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights on a Burgundian escape from Paris and it was perfect. The house was charming, and our room was spacious and very comfortable with a lovely outlook over the garden. The pool and outdoor living area was very attractive and ideal for warm summer's days. Also a great location from which to explore the surrounding villages, Chateaux and countryside.

Our hosts were welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast was delicious, and whether served outside by the pool or indoors in the charming dining room, the surroundings were perfect. Restaurants in the locality were excellent, but best booked in advance.

“An exquisite B & B in a fairytale part of France”

I found this B & B ("Chambre d'hôtes") on a French website ("GITES DE FRANCE"). It has four ears of wheat, which is the top ranking. We stayed five nights, in late May, and could have happily stayed longer. The house is simply gorgeous, supposedly having belonged to a mistress of Emperor Napoleon III in the mid 19th century. There are just two rooms, a big double with en suite bathroom, and a larger room suitable for families. The owner speaks English and German (as well as French, naturellement).

Breakfast was scrumptious, with delicious bread, cold cuts, cheese, homemade jams, and eggs were available on request. Parking off the street was available, but not necessary. There is a large outdoor swimming pool.

The tiny village of Cravant is a delight to stroll through, with a nearby canal and the river Yonne. We left every day to visit a different château, palace, castle (including one being built using medieval techniques), windmill, prehistoric cave paintings, town, vineyard, museum, or church. From Cravant, you can explore the whole of northern Burgundy, and it is one of the richest, culturally speaking, areas of France, with simply gorgeous countryside all around the towns and villages.

“Great value and wonderful people”

My brother-in-law and I were doing an 8 day walk across rural Burgundy, and this was one of our stops. The property and building were very attractive and inviting. The en suite rooms were very nice with good beds and toilet facilities, and the continental breakfast was very good. We had a good idea what type of rooms to expect in this price range and this was a pleasant surprise. But best of all, Madame went out of her way to help. She offered to forward our bags to the next stop free of charge (we were charged as much as 30 euros at some hotels for this service), and when we asked about a bank for future cash needs, she drove us to a nearby village that has a bank. While we were out, she took us on a brief tour of the vineyards overlooking the river valley we were walking. If I had a reason to go back, I would definitely stay there again.
