“Went for Sunday Lunch - will not go again !!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We went with two friends for Sunday lunch and what a dissapointment we all had.

Roast Beef that was far from acceptable with fat that should have been trimmed and two small and tough slices - Roast Lamb that looked and tasted as if it had come out of one of those low value frozen meals.
The vegetables were a bowl of mixed soggy green things and the "Goose Fat" roasted potatoesy were forgotten and when reminded, the waitress identified our table as "They want extra potatoes" - some would have been nice but when the so called "extras" did arrrive it consisted of 8 half potatoes between four people.
Would suggest there are plenty of MUCH better venues for Sunday Lunch and at the price they charge any number of places that offer better quality and better value - far too expensive.

“Mila's (and her parents) Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

After a short de-tour (involving: birthday gifts, and yes Christmas gifts a walk around a lake till a certain small individual took a nose dive in a rather large muddy puddle) we arrived at the hotel.
Very impressed already by the signs pointing in all directions stating all kinds of activities, buildings, restaurants and what not.
We parked the car and made our way to reception. At the reception someone entertained Mila (our 2 year old) straight away making check in a very easy operation. The small tour and explenation of the hotel and it's facilities was very welcome. When the door to the room was opened it was a very pleasant surprise. We were in room Tetbury which is a family suite with the master bedroom downstairs next to the large sitting/dining room. Upstairs was Mila's bedroom and on the same floor was an enormous bathroom with kingsize bath and seperate extra large shower.
Sabrina had booked Mila in for the creche, so we had time to unpack and relax. Around 4 o'clock when we picked her up, had a look around and went to the pool where we spend till 5.15 pm (when kids need to leave the pool). After this it was time to start the evening routine so the Gumstool restaurant it was for the youngest diner, we were welcomed at the door, shown HER table (which was set up with kids cutlery (nice little touch)) and Mila was given her menu. The choice on the menu is simple and to the point and exactly what you would expect for your child. She finished her corn on the cob starter, sausage and chips main course and even her ice cream desert. It is very unusual for Mila to eat that much but she had a a very active day and as a result when we got home it was a quick bath and of to bed without any objection.
Our baby sitter arrived at 8pm allowing us to go for dinner in the Conservatory restaurant where we had a lovely dinner and were well looked after by all members of staff from the beginning till end.
We all slept like a log and woke up the next day refreshed and ready for anything so at 9am the three of us headed to the restaurant for some breakfast. Like all other things another solid experience.
So OUR conclusion is to keep doing what you do because it is well thought though!!

Room Tip: Take a good look at the web site, if you cannot find what you are after just give them a call. Very...

“Relaxing stay”

My husband and I stayed at Calcot Manor for one night in October 2011. We booked a last minute deal that gave us the best available room at a set price. We booked a deluxe double in the main house, on the recommendation of the reservations desk as they described them as nicer than the courtyard rooms. So we were a little disappointing on arrival to find ourselves in a deluxe courtyard room which looked a little tired and smelled of dog! I think it's amazing this luxury spa hotel is dog friendly, but would appreciate a fresher smell in the rooms. In addition to this, there was building work taking place in the courtyard (in fact, right next to our room) which concerned us. We mentioned our disappointment to the reception desk and were moved to a standard room in the main house (they didn't have any other deluxe rooms available). I much preferred the room, despite it being a little smaller. It was a shame to miss out on the deal we had booked but they made up for it by putting a bottle of champagne on ice in our room while we were in the spa!

The spa is great. It's separated out - the steam room, sauna and loungers are upstairs, the pool downstairs and the hot tub outside. But actually this means you never feel there are many people around which is great! In fact we often had the outdoor hot tub & beautiful log fire to ourselves - just the sort of relaxing setting my husband and I needed! We ate at the Gumstool Inn which was absolutely deliclious, would highly recommend. But don't expect to have room for dessert! There is also a lovely walk around the grounds which shows off the stunning Cotswolds scenery.

The perfect stay for my husband and I to unwind - we will return again!

“Family friendly luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Just got back from a fabulous weekend celebrating a 70th birthday. Perfect place for grandparents, parents and children to enjoy quality time together (and even quality time apart - the children in the play zone and the parents in the spa or on a walk). Family swimming times. Children's meals and cinema in the evenings. Play area to suit all ages with really friendly staff. Scenery is gorgeous, rooms are beautiful and the food was pretty good too. Really recommend if you want a luxurious hotel that not only caters fully for children but seems to enjoy having children around. Wouldn't recommend if you are wanting a weekend away without kids though!

Room Tip: We stayed in a family suite - perfect for five of us.

“Idyllic”

Just returned from a two night inclusive midweek spa break. Outstanding service from a beautiful hotel. Emphasis on service from the moment we arrived - nothing was too much trouble. Spa does get booked up so book your treatments early, and indoor pool gets busy with kids at about 4pm but an hour earlier we were the only ones in it. That's as close as they are going to get to any criticism! Outdoor spa pool with open log fire to keep your gown warm whilst you sup champagne delivered to you. Bliss!
Maitre-d in both restaurants were excellent, even when we were the last ones in the Gumstool. (which has a great wine list with a dozen available by the glass)
Yes its an expensive break , but its taken me a long time to realise you get what you pay for. You're paying for great service in a great hotel and its worth it!
Will return.

Room Tip: Ist floor above reception - no noise from hotel or outside.
