My wife and I and 9 of our friends stayed at the Melia Cabo Real January 21 - 28, 2012. We contacted the hotel prior to our arrival and asked if we could be placed in building 3, which is closest to the pool and beach access. The front desk was able to accomodate us and in less than 30 minutes all of us were in our very comfortable and clean rooms. The porters took all our bags to the rooms.
The pool area was great. Music played throughout the day keeping us in a good mood. The bar staff worked endlessly keeping up with drink orders. You could do aerobics, basketball, volleyball - whatever you want or nothing, never any pressure.
The hotel sits on a little hill overlooking the beach so you have to walk down about 15 steps or a sloping path to get to the beach and then the water is about another 50 yards away. The beach is very sandy with no rocks and very swimmable.
One night there was a Mexican Fiesta on the beach - food, drinks, mariachis, fun.
We had no problem getting in the specialty restaurants. Find out what their schedule is and see the concierge by 9am. The food presentation was beautiful and it was quite good.
We all went to the lobby bar each evening and it was pretty active. Bingo night, casino night, dance. It was fun to meet the other guests and talk to the staff.
Did I say this place was clean? The public restrooms were as clean and fresh smelling as any I have visited, so you can imagine what the rest of the resort was like - immaculate!
The resort staff really make this place. We never encountered a worker who wasn't friendly and happy to help us or engage in a short conversation or give us a tutoring lesson on our Spanish. And believe me, the 11 of us met alot of the staff. Tipping is allowed but I never got the feeling that it was expected.
All the guests were well behaved while we were there, but I sensed that inappropriate behavior would not be tolerated. It's a good place for families with kids.
The resort is located between San Lucas and San Jose. Some of us went to San Lucas to sail with "Cabo Sailing". I recommend the 3 hour trip - drinks and lunch included for $400 for 4 people. In San Jose we went whale watching - those guys are wild and they know how to find whales.
It's a great resort. We all had a wonderful time. Go there. Relax. Have some fun!
Room Tip: Building 3 is closest to the beach and pool.
