“Beautiful Place, Great Location, Awesome Service, but one surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2009

My 3 sisters and I stayed in the Villa Manuela for 3 nights over the San Miguel festival weekend. The location was fantastic just a quick 5-10 minute walk to the main Jardin. The grounds were beautiful. The Villa was an amazing old building with lots of antiques, winding staircase to the 2nd floor, 1 3/4 bath, kitchen, all beautifully maintained and pretty clean for as old as this place is. A little smaller than I was expecting, but it fit the four of us just fine. There was a King Bed, Queen Bed, Sofa Bed, and very small twin for us all to use. There is no A/C, just one ceiling fan in the mater bedroom. The breakfasts were amazingly delicious....though sometimes slow to get all our sides. The overall service was very good....they were very accomodating to our needs, and quick to check on things, lots of bottled water available for the hot days. Lots of material available to read, the local english paper to find events for the weekend, maps we could borrow of the city, The only surprise we had was with regards to using their telephone service to call internationally.... they have good instructions available on how to use it, but no information on the rates and charges. Fortunately we only used it one night and it was such a hassle we decided to use our cell phones and pay the .99 cents/minute on Verizon (but that was WAY cheaper than using their phone service - so AVOID using their phones except for dire emergencies.) MCI and Sprint cards don't work in San Miguel either. We loved our stay there and had a great time. It is one of the few B&B places that can accommodate 4 people traveling together that want to share one accommodation. It provides an authentic Mexico feel too. Be aware, if there are any festivals going on in the town, you will here them...drums, fireworks, church bells...but that would be true for anywhere you stay in the downtown area. If I return to San Miguel with my husband in the future I probably would try a different place though, since there are so many places to stay and I think they are a bit high priced for what you get.

“Update to my previous review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2009

I previously reported that i had difficulty with an overcharge at this B&B. The management was not helpful, and Visa initially credited, and then rescinded, the overcharged amount. I am pleased to report that the problem has now been resolved, and the manager Lorenzo Campos has refunded the excess charge. It did take 6 months to accomplish, but I am happy with the outcome, and would otherwise still strongly recommend the hotel. I am going to attribute the difficulty to the Mexican bank system complicated by some early neglect.

“Beautiful, enchanting, affordable, friendly and attentive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2009

I really cant say enough good things about San Miguel and especially Casa Liza. Through a lucky turn of events we stayed in a casita that was worth twice what we paid. The service was impeccable, with turn down service and straitening of the room and towels and such every single time we left ( 2 or 3 times a day). Breakfast is great and bountiful. You get a whole sheet long menu every night to fill out with as much as you care for of every thing from 6 kinds of egg to 4 types of toast and many choices in between, served where ever and when ever we wanted. Most of the staff is bilingual and gave very good advice places to go or eat and things to do. They all went far out of their way or beyond thier job descriptions. Also the place itself was just amazing, Not only was the architecture and lanscaping just beautiful but, even in january, the flowers were everywhere and they have parrots, cats, fish and turtles to really bring the courtyards to life. All of the attention to detail amazed us also. There are literally hundreds of neat trinkets, antiques, nic-nacs, statues and all kinds of other fun things sitting outside in the outdoor rooms and also in each room of each casita. everywhere you turn was something new. As for SMA it is truly beautiful. The churches, handmade doors and gardens set a scene for walking right into a time warp or atleast a movie, and the people are freindly and largely bilingual. Food is very cheap and you can also find some great deals on souveniers and such at the artesian market. The weather was perfect, no rain very little humidity, cool at night and just warm enough during the day. The city is carved out of mountain so some streets can be very steep and everywhere is up and down so walking can be tiresome, but cabs are very cheap and abundant. We love this town and Casa L:iza.

“A Relaxing Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2009

We recently spent a week at Casa Liza and stayed in the Library Room. It was beautifully decorated and packed with art and books. The grounds too are absolutely charming, and impeccably maintained. The gourmet breakfasts (made to order) were absolutely delicious, and staff was very helpful and accommodating. I hope to return to SMA, and if we do we will definitely return to Casa Liza as well.

“Yearning to return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2009

Our breath was taken away when we stepped in Casa de Liza. It is absolutely beautiful! The grounds were like a botanical garden. Our room was enchanting. We loved the Corner suite. The view was awesome. Seeing the sunrise and the sunset was a real treat! Not to mention, the gas fireplace really set the mood. It was absolutely romantic!

Lorenzo was great taking care of our every need! Martin and Jorge were on hand in the evenings. You could count on their assistance. Another plus, you could have your clothes washed at Casa de Liza for a fee.

The ladies that took care of the breakfast were just lovely! They waited on us with such a lovely manner. You could tell they enjoyed their job. They enjoyed making your breakfast just the way you like it. They took pride in their service.

The breakfast menu was great. You had an array of choices. The breakfast is awesome! We loved everything!

We really enjoyed our stay! They were so attentive and pleasant that we felt at home. We definitely want to go back. We believe they are the best Bed and Breakfast in San Miguel de Allende!

If you drove down to San Miguel de Allende, Casa de Liza has free parking. This is rare.

Stepping out of Casa de Liza is Juarez Park. It is so lovely there. It is a big park where local artists display their paintings. You can play basketball or just enjoy the playground. There were many families enjoying the grounds.

The square is a short walk from Casa de Liza.

We highly recommend Casa de Liza for their establishment, their lush grounds, their service, and their grand breakfast!
