“More than a little bit special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

It is hard to add anything new to the praise that has already been heaped on this B&B, except to confirm that this is a very special place to stay. From the start (when we were advised how much to pay the taxi from the bus station) to the end we were taken care of with charm and care. Antonieta and Francisco have created a fabulous home around the old chapel, full of superb art. Everything is of the highest quality, every detail for your comfort has been thought of (down to ear plugs for those loud fireworks that go off any time of night), the food is delicious and the view over the town spectacular. To achieve that view the building is set near the top of a steep hill, but if you get puffed the taxis are cheap (and the driving in San Miguel seems very considerate towards pedestrians). Superb accommodation and good value for money.

“A very lovely retreat”

For our second visit to San Miguel and Antigua Capilla, we stayed during Christmas week and had a wonderful time. Homemade breakfasts were fabulous, including fresh fruit and juice, homemade granola (Antonieta will give you the recipe), yogurt and a hot dish, such as eggs, French Toast, and the like. And of course lots and lots of Mexican coffee, which puts Starbucks to shame. Antonieta is a wonderful hostess and introduces all the guests at breakfast, creating an atmosphere conducive to chatting about how we spent the day before. Our hosts provided wonderful restaurant recommendations, and will arrange for tours outside San Miguel with charming and knowledgeable drivers (ask for Miguel). On one day, one of the guests became ill, and Antonieta called a doctor, who made a house call at the B & B within 20 minutes! The guest was able to continue his holiday the following day. I might add that the rooms are exceptionally clean, and the beds are fab. In all, this is probably the very best accommodation of its kind. I really hope you can stay there on your visit to San Miguel.

Room Tip: Just email Antonetta or Francisco and they will help you decide. The rooms are fairly comparable, s...

“Magical stay in exquisite San Miguel”

Our party of 6 (3 rooms) spent 5 nights and the B&B exceeded our expectations. Situated in a little Callejon (alley) it was a haven to come back to after a day of walking and exploration. It is private and super quiet during the day and night. The beds and linens are of an extremely high quality, and we all slept like lambs! Antonietta was like our family while visiting attending to our needs and questions. Her staff were helpful and delightful! Thank you.
The B&B is tastefully designed and is filled with artworks that compliment the beautiful architectural elements of the bedrooms and common areas. Breakfasts were fresh and delicious with superb homemade granola, yoghourts, fruit and eggs done in local style or to order. European style delicious coffee to awake our senses and choices of teas. Antonietta arranged our shuttle to Leon airport with a wonderful reliable company. We highly recommend Antigua Capilla and will certainly be back!

Room Tip: all rooms are large, charming with superb tilework detail in the bathrooms

“Highly Recommend Antigua Capilla!!!”

My wife and I recently made our first visit to San Miguel and chose Antigua Capilla based on the effusive reviews. I must say that it exceeded our already high expectations in all respects. Antonieta was like our personal concierge, and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and sights and learning about the local community. Every day began with a fantastic breakfast in their beautiful communal dining room. The property itself is immaculate and beautiful. We stayed in the Santa Clara del Cobre room, which was lovely and very comfortable. (I stay in a lot of fine hotels, and the bed here was the most comfortable ever.) Personal touches are evident throughout the property. For example, the little old chapel which has been preserved in the courtyard had been decorated with a special alter for Dia de Muertos. Flowers bloom everywhere. The view from the roof is magnificent, especially at sunset. We also met Francisco toward the end of our stay. It is evident that he and Antonieta have great attention to detail and a great sense for making guests comfortable. We are looking forward to returning to Antigua Capilla and hope to find a time we can bring our adult daughters with us!

Room Tip: We looked at several rooms before we left, and all seemed very nice. I think the pictures on the we...

“Fantastic!”

We want to go back! Soon! Where do I begin?
Rooms: I only saw the inside of our rooms and each room is different but WOW! The Oaxaca room has beautiful artesanías, a super soft, comfy bed, a romantic bathtub next to a stone wall that can be lit up with candles. A great AppleTV selection and Ipod speakers are another great touch.
The building: All the rooms face a beautiful colonial courtyard with a tiny "capilla" and a nice fountain. The view from the terrace is magical.
Service: Best service ever! After getting lost in those tricky colonial streets trying to get to Antigua Capilla the owner, Antonia, actually got in the car with us to lead the way, she also made an appointment for me with a wonderful hairdresser when I told her I needed to get my hair done (we were in San Miguel for a wedding)
Breakfast. Yum! Bread with jam and butter, fresh fruit and yogurt with excellent granola, mexican specialities, coffe or tea in a beautiful family style dining room.
Location: a short walk down the hill or a cheap taxi ride coming back up. The hill makes for fanstastic views.
We also happened to walk into the San Miguel procession which was an amazing, magical experience!
