“amazing castle, amazing room, terrible food”

Stunning place, our room was definitely the best we have had for a long time, it was just such a pity that the food was so bad, ate in all 3 places, the monks kitchen, the bar and their posher restuarant, pretty awful each time, breakfast was terrible as well, such a pity as it had great potential, is it as haunted as they say, definitely!!We had a ghost in our room, long story but was friendly so all good!!! Would I recommend it, no!!!Seriously noisy upstairs too!

“Excellent Castle and excellent staff”

We stayed in Kinnitty castle for the Oct bank holiday weekend, This place is amazing and full of charm and a bit spooky, Our room was located in the abbey part of the castle, The room had a huge four poster bed and an amazing bathroom,
We ate in the monks kitchen the first night which was very nice, then we headed to the dungeon bar which had some music and was packed. The second night we ate in the sli dara, this was out of this world and the food was amazing,we headed to the library bar which was quite and relaxing, The dungeon bar was quite aswell but there was a drunken yobo there that kept us entertained,
The ground of the castle are excellent and well worth a walk into the woods, There are even wil deer in the woods,

I would recommend Kinnitty to anyone as its out of this world

“you might be spooked looking for sleep”

Just back from a night in Kinnity Castle. The staff were very pleasant which is a great help. The food was good. We were attending at a wedding and it was a lovely setting. However squeaky floor boards overhead and creaking corridor doors made it impossible to sleep. A lot of nooks and crannys and stairways which were not signposted made it easy get lost. Breakfast was more or less a burnt offering.

Unfortunatley we only stayed the one night, from the time we arrived everyone was so welcoming we had a beautiful large room,, bathroom with free standing roll top bath, four poster bed, the room was spotless the bed very comfortable. Our evening meal was delicious with good selection and served piping hot, breakfast again had great selection ,at all times the staff went out of their way to be helpful and informative. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kinnitty Castle both for service and value. A most enjoyable stay ,we will return

“Worst Hotel Ever and Haunted!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

I was very excited about my trip to Kinnity as it sounded and looked lovely on the website. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon in July. We were shown to "our room", and when the door opened I have to say I was very disappointed. Looking at the photos, I was expecting a four poster bed, we were shoved into a tiny room off the castle in what looked like converted stables. We could hear EVERYTHING. There were kids in the room above us and they were running up and down the floor constantly. We knew before we got there that there was no tv. We had a radio that didnt work. The bed was the hardest bed I ever slept in and very uncomfortable. We had booked treatments in the Spa Gate Lodge. We were disappointed when we got there as no one had told us that there was a jacuzzi steam room and sauna. We would have availed of this for the evening if we had known as we had a very boring night ahead. The girls in the Gate Lodge were so nice and helpful and the treatments were lovely. We then went back to the Hotel and had dinner. The restaurant was very quiet. The meal was average. The evening was very long, we had nothing to do, we were too far from anywhere to drive to a pub or town. We decided to go to the bar at around 8pm and it was empty. We went back to the bar again at 9:30 and there were around 5-10 people there. We went up to the bar which had no staff and we waited 10 minutes for someone to come into the bar area to serve us. we had 2 drinks and left. no atmosphere, no music, just a dark room with candles. We went to bed and when the lights went out, the room was black dark... then we heard breathing coming from the corner of the room. I never slept a wink all night. My boyfriend then told me he saw a shadow in the room at 3am! We left very early the next morning. We said we would take advantage of the free bikes the hotel offered. The bikes were all flat and the brakes didnt really work. we came back and just left. I would never come back to this hotel. I was very disappointed. It was awful. I certainly wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Dear Guest,

On behalf of the team at Kinnitty Castle Hotel I would like to thank you for your feedback with regard to your recent stay with us. We would also like to apologise for the fact that your trip was not up to the standards you expected. We always endeavour to go out of our way to please our guests, but in your case we obviously fell short.

As with all hotels during these trying economic times there can be some very quiet periods of occupancy within the hotel itself. It was unfortunate that one of these times happened to occur during your visit. In specific relation to your comments, it can sometimes be difficult to cut out noise issues altogether due to the very old interior and architecture of the building. We apologise for this but sometimes this can be out of our control, partiularly when it comes to children! We find that children in particular tend to get over excited when they arrive to the Castle with its unique and charming surroundings and design!

Since your stay, we have replaced all of the radios in each of our 37 bedrooms and we are currently in the process of replacing all of our bicycles that we offer to guests at no extra charge to enjoy the grounds of the Castle and Slieve Bloom Mountains.

We hope that you will allow us the opportunity to show you that we do take all of our customers comments on board and that we do endeavour to make each and every guest's stay as enjoyable as possible.

I do hope you will take an opportunity to come and visit us again soon.

Kindest Regards,

Gillian
