“Don't be put off by negative reviews”

I was a little wary after reading through some of the comments especially considering we booked this to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. But I've always wanted to stay in a castle so we fired ahead anyway. The hotel was fantastic. We were based in the Owney Room which was on the ground floor beside the large courtyard. The room was lovely and warm once we went in, it had a large sleigh bed and a really nice bathroom. I was glad to have no tv in the room as it would have taken away from the athmosphere the rooms created. There was a tv in the library bar.

The service was top notch throughout the stay. They were really accommodating as we arrived late on Saturday evening and hadn't booked our dinner, so they sorted that out for us no problem. The bar staff in both bars were amazing. The restaurant staff were always on hand and there was no waiting around, which was great. I loved the rooms and all the detail that went into the dungeon bar and the monks kitchen. I will definitely return again but will definitely give myself more time to wander the grounds. We only got to pet the horses for a few minutes the next morning before we had to leave. Amazing place!

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the courtyard, it's beautiful!!

“Hidden gem for a romantic break”

Spent a lovely 2 nights in this castle hotel. The setting is beautiful with the Slieve Bloom mountains nearby. Olde world charm throughout the castle from the bedrooms to the lounge/pub to the dining room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good value for money. Just to be aware that there was no television in the bedroom we stayed in - that might put some people off- but it added to the charm of the place for us. Bicycles are available for rental at the castle, that is set in over 600 acres and the Slieve blooms provide scenic walks. So pack your posh frock for the dining room and your hiking boots for the daytime. Just go visit!

Room Tip: higher floors have better view

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review - I am glad you enjoyed the warmth and comfort of the Castle and the activities around the grounds.
Our food and service team and two things we are very proud of here at Kinnitty Castle Hotel so thank you for noticing them. We are in the process of installing T.V. sets in all our rooms so that is something that should be complete in the near future.

We hope that you will come to visit us again soon.

“Need of update!”

Stayed here for 1 night in Dec 11. Got a good deal for the 2 of us.

The hotel setting and grounds are lovely - almost magical!

We checked in and we were given a tour of the castle which was great. Receptionist was lovely. They had a Christmas tree up and the place smelled like Christmas!

Our room was big, there was a 4 poster bed and a large ensuite with a free standing tub. The room was a big run down. The drapes were fraying a bit, the room could have used a lick of paint, but I suppose it added to the authenticity.

We in the bar, the food was very nice and we hada few drinks there too. Nice atmosphere, again the staff were lovely.

Nice trip, but wasn't very luxuiorus. Minor gripe - no tv in room which is what you'd expect now-a-days!!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments, we are glad you enjoyed the service of our staff, this is something that we take great pride in. in response to your comments regarding the general housekeeping of the Castle, we do try to keep this updated as regularly as possible as the building does date back over 800 year, this is definatly a priority for us as it is in our best interest to keep the Castle as comfortable and well maintained as possible for our guests. Televisions are something that we now have in stock and are working towards installing in all our guestrooms. Hopefully these will be in place for your next visit.

It was a wonderful introduction to Kinnity Castle to drive up just as darkness fell and to see the Christmas lights welcome us. The receptionist was friendly and efficient.
Our room, the Darcy suite necessitated negotiating the stairs to the top floor but it was worth it. Lovely room with a great view and a large comfortable bed.
All the staff were friendly especially the lovely lady who served breakfast every morning with a cheerful smile.
We hope to return again soon.

“Kinnity Castle-Great for a quiet break!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

My partner booked a midweek break in Kinnity castle during the off season in November. As such the castle was very quiet. On arrival check in was great, the staff were very helpful and gave us a tour of the castle and brought us to our room. We were staying in the Finian Room. The room had a 4 poster bed and the decor was in theme with the castle. I ll admit the room could have done with a bit more upkeep, the carpets and hangings were faded and the plaster on the walls and ceiling were badly decayed in places, also there was no television in the room. Our neighbours had one as we happened to walk by when their door was open and seen it. The bathroom had a bath/shower and was nice. Again the furnishings were a bit dated though. We went down to the bar for dinner and a few drinks, as I said before it was very quiet and there were only a few American middle aged-elderly couples staying-probably for the Foliage!!! There was only one member of staff on in the bar and serving food in the neighbouring dining room. There was a bit of a delay waiting for our drinks but the staff member on duty was very helpful. The bar menu though not extensive caters to most tastes and me and my partner were both able to get something we liked plus desert. The food was was very nice and for 2 mains and 2 deserts we paid just under fourty euro. We stayed at the bar til about 11 then went to bed. Before coming to Kinnity castle I had no idea it was haunted-we only booked it because of a special offer my partner found online. As I lay in bed I remember I was very warm, but I had the covers over me completely anyway..as I lay there I kept getting the feeling of an ice cold breeze on my legs under the covers. This happended repeatedly for a few hours!!! And it was unusual because it was a mild night. I kept checking the covers for gaps but there was none. I ended up listening to my Mp3 til after 3 in the morning when I eventually dozed off. I kept the light on all night though as I had the feeling someone was looking at me and it un-nerved me completely. We had breakfast the next morning-again the staff were very helpful. Only complaint is that the toast was brought out 5 minutes before our breakfast and as such was stone cold by the time our food arrived. If I hadnt found out the castle was actually haunted I might have gone back..but now I know I dont think I will. If you love the countryside mixed with a bit of history/hauntings you ll love this place!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a non haunted room with a TV!!!!
