Two of us were on a business trip in mid-October. It was the first time for one of us (from Ottawa) to be in this part of the world, and while I've been to Port Hardy I was awe struck by the beauty and soul of Port Alice. Despite the weather, and although we weren't there as tourists, it was the perfect place for us. We each had private rooms on the lower floor of the house, and a kitchen and sitting room to comfortably share. Each room has a patio looking out on to the garden and inlet. Breakfasts were ready and waiting for us in the sitting room/kitchen each morning with Bonnie's home made goodies and a note advising us of bear sightings in the backyard.
I had to leave earlier than my colleague so I missed out on Jim's complimentary tours into the back country which sounds like I really missed out.
They intuitively sensed that we needed private down time at the right moments for our work. Sometimes I find B&B's can be a bit too chatty when I'm on business. I actually felt more relaxed than working at home. Whether you are a tourist or on business or simply to get away, this is the place to stay. And if you can get your hands on some of the local smoked salmon, consider yourself blessed.
