We arrived at Zafiro after a few days at the Playa Palms in Playa del Carmen and one night at Cabanas Copal. A friend had told us about Zafiro and it was a bit hard to find, seeing as there is no sign, only a colorful pareo blowing in the wind to indicate an entrance. After having been let in by the groundskeeper, who we soon knew as don Nicolas, we met with Yuri, the owner who showed us one of the two cabanas available for rent on his property. Wonderfull high palapas roof, double bed and twin bed, shower with hot water and pressure, toilet (semi-covered from the room) sink, desk, funky closet and shelving unit...basically everything you need to be a happy camper, which is essentially what you are as a guest at Zafiro. Allow me to elaborate, Zafiro is still in early stages of developpement, Yuri has great plans for this place and they are in motion, but for the moment, you are still living in a Tulum-style rustic way. But the beach!!! From the bed, you can see and hear the waves crashing on the shore, there are no rocks and you are litteraly sharing it with three other people, if any! Yuri is a great host who will make sure that you have everything that you need, just ask for it. The vibe is more as though you were staying at a friend's house than anything else. I recommend that you have a vehicle to get some food if you want to cook on the premises (shared outdoor kitchen...tres cool!) There are restaurants within walking distance but a cooler full of food is always a good idea. If you want to get massages, Yuri can call up Yacenia, who is wonderfull and also offers a clay massage that is very theraputic and professional. Definately check out the cenotes, we know of two within walking distance and Yuri can recommend more further out. Only good things to say about Zafiro, I am going back in two months to enjoy this place before everyone knows about it, but no doubt it will be just as wonderfull when everyone does.
