“Good if you don't expect too much.”

When you enter the hotel through the main-entrance, it looks amazing. Great Classical-Greek style, with Corinthian Columns and marble floors, a big fountain in the middle with palm trees. The restaurant is located around all that, which is great.

The rooms though, are not the same. They are clean and have big windows, but could use some work. Another strange thing (that we came across more than once in Mexico): When you book a 2 person-room, you will get a room with 2 (small) double beds. But when you book a 3 person-room, you will get the same room, with 2 (small) double beds. Strange thing, if you travel with colleagues or other people you don't want to share your bed with.

The hotel is located in the city-center of Merida. Next to the hotel is a private car park, which is free for hotel guests.

The Hotel has elevators, and if you go to the top floor and then take the stairs, you'll get on the rooftop. From here you've got a GREAT view over the city (especially by sunset). Although there's no sign, it's not completely legal to walk over the rooftop, but hey, who really cares.

The restaurant is good, serves varied food at reasonable prices. The food is good, very colorful and well-flavored.

The swimming pool looks old and unattractive. Water of air-conditionings is falling down right on your head and the overall impression of the pool makes you want to leave it.

Other pros and cons:
+ free WiFi all over the building
+ nice view at the rooftop

“Will never be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

The place is beatifull, but....the day we arrived was a Tuesday service was ok, kind of slow but that is the pace there, but by Thursday the place was full and the service just went bad, the people was rude, The restaurant was the worst, they are short of personnel, Bottom line, worth having a drink at the bar, but service even at the recepcion desk is terrible.

“Not what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

The pictures of the hotel are deceiving. The entrance is impressive but that is where it stops. The rooms were roomy and clean but worn out and sparse. The mattresses were hard and the sheets were thin. There was one chair and one luggage rack for 3 people. The staff were friendly and very professional. It was spooky at night as we saw very few other guests. The location and price were great! We never saw a fitness center anywhere. The nightclub/bar was always empty. I don't know what I expected for $47 per night! We considered moving to a different hotel but it seemed like too much work,

“Don't be fooled - this place is not what the hotel's website claims it to be”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2009

My husband and I stayed there for a wedding in the Merida area last March. We thought this would be a great place to stay, having looked at other hotel websites. The rest seemed overpriced and this one seemed to be clean and well kept. Once we got there, we had to make a double take. Not what we had signed up for at all. It was as if a tornado had passed by and no one cared to restore the building. Cracked walls. Stained, leaky, yellowish. Has never been painted again. Bed linen, towels, and curtains that look as if they haven't been replaced, ever. The same goes for the pillows. As if they had pebbles in them from the long lasting wear and tear. Do not stay here if you're into cleanliness and comfort.

and not only that, there was an overall stench to it.

“Very nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2009

The old Hotel Mision Merida was old and dilapidated so they acquired what was formerly a Hotel Calinda. When one enters the Hotel from the front entrance the sight is awesome with the plants and fountain in the solarium in the center of the hotel. The new location is a few more blocks from El Zocalo (the town plaza) but still a great location. Right next door is a well known restaurant, Las Almendras, where one can experience some very fine traditional Yucatan cuisine. All the rooms are spacious and have free WIFI. I found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. If you want to go to Chitzen Itza, a must see for a first time visitor to the Yucatan, they have transportation available every day. At the rear of the hotel is a large swimming pool and covered dining area. I expect to return to Merida quite soon and I will most certainly stay at this hotel.
